Indian Wild Dog - Dhole
In India we have a species of wild predator that resembles to the genus Canis (Wolves and Dogs) but belongs to the genus of the Cuon. It is the Indian Wild Dog (Cuon alpines). Its dental structure is different from the genus Canis, but over all the dhole resembles the genus Canis.

Dholes do not have a very long term social structure with strong alpha male leading the pack for long periods of time. Instead the alpha male and female in a dhole pack are the ones who only breed but the pack composition is very dynamic with members leaving the pack quite easily and forming their own packs. Sometimes consisting of only two individuals. Sometimes the pack becomes large consisting of more than 35 individuals.

The love to feed on the Spotted deer and Sambhar in the forests that contain them. As a pack they work together to hunt their prey. They communicate by cackling and whistling sounds. Therefore sometimes also known as the whistling dogs.
