Majestic Cork oak
A majestic cork oak (Quercus suber) rises at the end of the trail, on the iconic Alentejo plain. This particular tree species was declared a symbol of the Portuguese nation, being protected by law. It's also the most iconic tree in the sunny and warm Alentejo, the largest region in Portugal.
Very cool photo. 😎
Thanks man :)

I know the oak tree family to be famous for beeing strong and endurable already, but never heared before that they are protected by law in Portugal ^^ Thank you for sharing this nice picture and information with us ;)
Hi @adalger... Only two Quercus species are protected by law in Portugal and cannot be cut or thrown down (for that, a government authorization is required): Quercus suber (cork oak), the tree from which the cork is taken (for wine corks, for example); and Quercus rotundifolia (holm oak). They are two iconic trees, representative of the typically Mediterranean climate of Southern Portugal.
Cheers mate!
Great to know.. Here in Germany we commonly see the Quercus Robur, but as far as I know no tree here is treated specifically :( .. But they should try to protect every single one ^^
Yes, indeed. Here we have strong communities of Quercus robur in the Northwest of the country :)
