Steemit Learning Challenge-S22W1: Physical Therapy Intervention: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Assalam O Alaikum.

Hello my steemit friends i hope you are all doing well and enjoying life . I am excited to participate in this Steemit Learning Challenge. As a cardiology student i enjoy expandings my knowledge about healths and medical interventions. This week i am diving into carpal tunnel syndrome a condition i have always been curious about. Through this post i wills explain CTS discuss its diagnosis and share my experience with exercises designed to help those who suffer from it. Let’s learn together!

What's carpal tunnel syndrome? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post?

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a conditions that affects the wrists and hand its happens when the medians nerves which passes through a narrow tunnels in the wrist gets compressed or irritated. This can caused numbness tingling and weakness in the hands especially in the thumb index and middles fingers.

The carpal tunnel is a small passageway made of bones and ligaments. If the space in this tunnel becomes tight due to swelling injury or repetitive movements it puts pressure on the median nerve leading to CTS. Common causes include typing on a keyboard for long hours using vibrating tools or certain health conditions like diabetes or arthritis.

How would you diagnose a carpal tunnel syndrome? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?

Diagnosing CTS requires a combination of patient history physical examination and specific tests. Here are the common methods:

Patient History.
Doctors ask about symptoms like numbness tingling or pain in the hand. They also inquire about activities that involve repetitive wrist movements.

Physical Examination.
The doctor checks for weakness in the muscles of the thumb.
They may press or tap on the wrist to see if it triggers pain or tingling.

Clinical Tests.
Tinel's Test: The doctor lightly taps the wrist. If the patient feels a tingling sensation it could indicate CTS.
Phalen’s Test: The patient bends their wrists together in a downward position for 1–2 minutes. If its causes tingling or numbness CTS mights be present.

Electromyography.
EMG measures the electricals activity in muscles to see if the median nerves is functioning properly.

Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practicing preferably gifs or videos?

I practiced three exercises from the lessons to help ease the symptoms of CTS. These exercises aim to stretchy and strengthen the wrist and fingers while reducing pressures on the median nerve.

  1. Wrist Flexor Stretch.
    How to Do Its:
Extend one arm straight in fronts of you with the palm facing up.
Use the others hand to gently pull the fingers backs toward your body until you feel a stretch in your wrist.
Hold for 15–30 seconds and repeat 3 times for each hand.
    Experience:
This exercise felt relaxing and reduced stiffness in my wrist.

  2. Median Nerve Glide
    How to Do It:
Extend your arms to the side with the palm facing upwards.
Slowly bend your wrist and fingers downwards then straighten them again.
Repeat 10 times for each arm.
    Experience:
I noticed a mild tingling sensation initially but the movement became smooth after a few repetitions.

  3. Wrist Rolls
    How to Do It:
Place your hands in fronts of you and make loose fists.
Slowly rotates your wrists in circular motions first clockwise and then counterclockwise.
Perform 10 rotations in each direction.
    Experience:
This was my favorite exercise as it improved blood flow and made my wrists feel relaxed.

Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself healthy individual or patient?

Practicing these exercises gave me a better understanding of how to manage wrist strain. I tried them on myself and a healthy individual to see the impact.

On Myself:
I experienced mild wrist stiffness after long typing sessions. The stretches and glides brought immediate relief and improved flexibility.

On a Healthy Individual:
My brother joined me in trying these exercises. He felt no pain but mentioned that the stretches made his wrists feel lighter and more comfortable.

Overall i believe these exercises can benefit not only people with CTS but also those who use their hands for repetitive tasks. They are simple effective and easy to include in a daily routine.

This Steemit Learning Challenge was a rewarding experience. Understanding carpal tunnel syndrome and trying out exercises to alleviate its symptoms has been enlightening. The diagnosis methods were fascinating and the exercises were practical and enjoyable. I hope my insights encourage others to care for their wrists and prevent conditions like CTS. Thank you for reading and i look forward to learning more in the future!

Repetitive work for long periods of time causes problems in our wrists which is known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. This is a problem that occurs in our wrists and makes it difficult for us to do even small tasks. However, it is not just repetitive tasks that cause this disease. Among the many reasons for the occurrence of this disease, it is one of the reasons that the number of people currently typing on the keyboard is countless, so this disease is more common among these people.
Doctors conduct various tests to diagnose this disease, including Electromyography, Patient History, wrist pressure test and other tests.
To solve this problem, we should stay away from work that puts pressure on the wrist as much as possible or perform them at a tolerable level, follow the doctor's advice and do regular wrist exercises.

Hello friend greetings to you, hope you are doing well and good.

Your explanation about this lesson is to much awesome. The exercises you have shown here are too good and perfect. This article could help many people who are suffering from such a disorder. My mom also had such a disorder and she went through proper operation to diagnose it.

I wish you best of luck in the contest dear friend. Keep blessing.
