Steemit Learning Challenge-S21W4: Physical Therapy Intervention: Asthma
Hello friends how are you doing I am good. Today I am here to explore about asthma and I would say special thanks to @ashkhan for given us this opportunity to learn about asthma.
What's Asthma? Write in your own words after getting knowledge from the lesson post.
It refer to chronic conditions which changed the airways that is the bronchial tubes by permitting the entry and exit of air into lungs that is the limited and this condition is happened due to inflammation in airways which become cause of difficulty in breathing. sometime it is acute and chronic and it can be observed in children and adult more commonly.
Hence inflammation plays role in a occurance of asthma and multiple cell types are involved. Moreover caused may be genetic and environmental factors such as allergies and dust are also reason of involved in immune system.
It's more common when there is family history involved especially parents. It is more common in children and 50% died as it's chronic. The most common signs of asthma are as follows.
- Sudden fast in breathing
- Coughing difficulty in breathing
- Sometimes resistance in cough
- Bluish in nails or lip color changed to blue
- Face color change to pale and excessive sweating is observed
The common types of asthma are following.
- Asthma induced due to allergy
- Asthma of bronchitis
- Occupational Asthma due to occupational
- Exercise-Induced Asthma induced due to exercise
- Asthma due to steroids resistant
How would you diagnose a asthma? Any clinical investigation or assessment tests?
Normally chest x-ray is used to check the asthma if allergy symptoms are there. Few other tests are also used such as
- FeNO test
- Spirometry
- Peak flow test
FeNO This test is preformed in a machine which measure the nitric oxide level and it's the symptom of inflammation.
Spirometry This test is also perform in a machine which can measure how rapid is breathing in term of breathing out and holding air in lungs.
Peak flow test This test is perform with the handheld device which measure the breathing rate how much fast it is and how rapid it moved out.
Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share images, gifs or videos while practicing.
Chest stretch
It's done by bending arm backwards and keeping chest straight in a way chest is stretching highly effective.
Diaphragm breathing
The chest movement is more involved while involved chest muscles in straight position abdomen released more air towards diaphragm
Lip pursing
Breathing through lip seqeezing in a way more pressure on chest diaphragm.
Share your review after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individual or patient.
These are highly effective and I found it good. Hence I am the patient of allergy and sometime it's very severe.
It's all about my today post.
I would like to invite my friends @m-fdo, @jannat12 and @mdkamran99 to take part in the challenge.
About asthma today I learned so many things by reading your post. Through your post, I came to know that asthma affects the airways due to combustibility which can cause difficulty in breathing the reason can be both genetic and various environmental issues like dust and allergies. Unfortunately, I have both of these issues in me. Difficulty in time of breathing, coughing, and also changing the color of the nails and lips of our body are the symptoms of having asthma in us. Yes, it is very important for parents to recognize these symptoms in their children. For diagnosing this disease chest X-rays, the FeNO test, spirometry, and peak flow tests are very useful. The exercise chest stretches, diaphragm breathing, and lip pursing which you have mentioned and also shown throughout the videos are useful for every person. These exercises are helpful for improving breathing and also lung capacity. It really makes me sad to hear that like me you’re also an allergy patient. Through your whole post, I got a clear explanation, practical advice, and also can be seen some actionable steps spreading my awareness about asthma and I hope it also helps other Steemians as well as many people around the world. I’m grateful to you for bringing up this valuable topic and sharing it with us elaborately.
Your post inspired me. Increasing knowledge about Asthma is much needed in our society. You set a great example. Good luck for the contest.
Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.
Observations
Task 1 (2.8/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about asthma, and it's causes, symptoms, types. Asthma is the reversible condition that can be cured either with medications and physical therapy too. A bit more depth require to complete the answer. I appreciate your effort.
Task 2 (3/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing performing investigations and specialized tests. Excellent.
Task 3 (3.8/4)
You try the pursed lip, diaphragmatic breathing and chest muscle (pectoralis major) stretch. You did the diaphragmatic breathing and chest stretch in correct way. But in pursed lip you have to less purse then you did in the gif. Remember always take steam or nebulization before performing exercises to relax your muscles & dislodge sputum that can excrete out easily. I appreciate your efforts.
Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from any asthma as winter is the trigger of most the people suffering from asthma. Thank you.
Thank you so much for valuable feedback and review.
