Micro Photography of Butterflies and Insects
Fluttering butterflies are a symbol of summer. There are many of them in the Bryansk region. They have a variety of sizes: from very small to quite large. Butterflies have a variety of colors, which attracts the attention of every vacationer in nature. Interestingly, the color of the wings of butterflies depends on microscopic scales.
The second name of the butterfly is thistle. It got its names from the forage plants on which their caterpillars feed. Butterflies are famous for their long migrations. Large clusters of thistles move at a speed of 25-30 kilometers per hour. There are cases when butterflies overcame about 500 kilometers per day! And the total length of their flights is more than 5000 kilometers. In our area, butterflies can be found in May - mid June. But they look shabby, as they have already covered several hundred and even thousands of kilometers. In mid-July, the second generation appears, which appeared on our territory, begins the return journey from mid-July.
Depending on the amount of food, butterflies can be beneficial or harmful. If there is enough feed, then they feed only on weeds, if there is not enough feed, then they can switch to useful crops.
Urticaria is one of the most common butterflies in the Bryansk region. The name comes from the plant - nettle, which the larvae like to eat. Found in forests, parks, meadows and vegetable gardens. For a year, a butterfly can give several generations, but adults hibernate. Males die in autumn, and females with fertilized eggs hide in a secluded place. In a dazed state, they await a warm spring. It is known that wintering urticaria can freeze through and through, but in the spring they come to life anyway.
Hawk moths are large butterflies. Most often they are active at night. They also, like diurnal butterflies, feed on plant nectar. This group also has a second name - sphinxes. This is due to the fact that, being disturbed, they raise their front part of the body in the "sphinx" position. They got the name "hawk moths" because of the love of some species of this group to drink tree sap. Especially when he's gotten a little crazy.
