A few days back I used to hear about the old man in village who was venerable by everyone for his intellect. The once rich, arrogant merchant broke his back of arrogance once he lost everything in that fire. It turned from the instant that a man who was once filthy and detested quickly became poor. However, this incident actually changed him into a humble and wise person. He began to help the people around him by sharing his life experiences and guiding them not to repeat his mistakes, which were being too obsessed with worldly wealth.

This story has always struck me, and in terms of arrogance vs the impermanent nature of the world that the end had a big impact on me. Usually in our daily life, we are kind of drowsy from the awards or bood that we have. I have also experienced moments where I felt too confident about small successes, to the point of forgetting to appreciate the people around me. However, the story of this old man reminds me that life can change at any time, and arrogance will only lead to destruction.It is hard to lose material things, but even harder losing meaning of the life and relationships with others.

I learned from this story that true joy is not in the possessions, its in honesty and humility. I started to think about how I deal with other people in my life and what more I could have done to show them more respect, regardless of their position or background.. . I also began to understand that every bad experience has a lesson that we can take to improve ourselves.

As a real step, I try to apply this lesson in my daily life. I try to be more grateful for what I have, no matter how small, and avoid comparing myself to others. Also, I try do be more empathetic of the ppl next to me. I personally want to be the person that can slow down, make the effort to help if someone needs it whether its big or small.

I try to impart this lesson to the ones I love the most (start with your family, especially your kids ) so they turn out to be humble people. I often invite them to discuss the importance of respecting others and helping others. By building small habits like sharing food with neighbors or giving clothes to those in need, I hope to instill values of kindness that they can carry with them throughout their lives.

That story taught me the secret to inner peace in life is to be humble. As for riches and honor, they may come and go, but kindness and sincerity are the only that stay, imprints on people's hearts.
