Hello, my wonderful friends; how are you all doing, I am so happy to join this amazing contest titled DOES TECHNOLOGY SEPARATE OR BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER? I also want to thank @sahmie for this amazing contest.
Do you feel closer to your friends and family because of social media, or do you think it keeps you apart?
I feel closer to my friends and family members through social media because social media has done more good than harm; through the help of phones, I talk to my parents almost every day.
I have been away from home for like two years now because of my studies, but any time I feel like I want to see my mum's face or siblings, I call them video call or call them normal call, so it makes me feel very close to them, even if am not close to them, but through the help of technology it now makes it easier for us to always communicate with our love ones.
You can be in Nigeria and be communicating with someone who is in the UK or other countries, so social media is doing a great job because it helps us, and it also helps me to bring me closer to my friends and my family members.
How often do you use your phone or computer to talk to people compared to meeting them in person?
Very often, because I prefer talking on phone or other other social media platform, than meeting the person in person.
So I use my phone almost every day to talk to people, than meeting them, because using my phone saves me more time and it saves me money too, so I use my phone and computer to talk to my family always.
And all thanks to technology for making it very easy for everyone.
Before if you what to talk to your people that is not staying with you, you need to write letter or travel to the place, but now the case is very different, so I prefer using my mobile phone to talk to my people always.
Can technology help us make new friends, or does it mainly connect us with people we already know?
Technology can help us to make new friends, for instance, I and my best friend, I met her on Facebook, because she always comments on any picture that I upload on my profile, so one day I decided to chat her up, we started chatting, gisting and introducing ourselves to each other,
She told me that she is from Abuja in Nigeria, I told her that am from Ebonyi state in Nigeria too,
She said that she likes me, that she would love if I will be her friend, we became friends, till today, she can't stay a week without calling to check up on me.
So technology helps us to make new friends.
Have you ever felt lonely while using social media? Why do you think that happens?
Yes, I do feel lonely sometimes while using social media, especially Facebook.
This happens when the person I want to chart is not online or I don't have data to be viewing pictures and watching videos,
These are the two things that make me feel lonely on social media.
How has technology changed the way we communicate with each other?
Technology has changed the way we communicate with each other in so many ways, and one of the major ways is that today, we can boldly speak to one another without being scared or shy.
In life, there are lots of people who are always very shy, especially when talking to others physically, but via technology, one can easily communicate with others without being scared or shy when speaking.
People tend to have more freedom of expression via technology than physically talking to one another.
