Stories, learnings and reflection #05 / My daughter
Let me tell you a story about what happened to my daughter. As you know, I have a daughter who is almost 7 years old. She was diagnosed with autism. Fortunately, this is autism to a small extent. This is the stage of the first degree, so it does not interfere too much in life, and even I will say more, my daughter is very intelligent, she is a little different from her peers, but for this, she devotes herself very much to some activities, which, according to me, in the future will bode for her a wonderful future. Kids with autism have it, I've come across many cases where kids who have autism don't talk. Fortunately, my daughter has no speech problems. She had at first, but over time she learned to talk better and better with the help of specialists and, of course, with my help.
But back to the topic. 3 years ago, when my daughter was 4 years old, my wife and I fed her breakfast cereal. It's normal, but what happened one night changed my life, my outlook on the world, and my children. I learned that you never know when something bad might happen. Just a second and our lives can change for the worse, as it could have been in this case, but fortunately, everything ended well and it turned out for me too.
What exactly is going on? We had guests, I sat with them in another room, where at the same time my wife was feeding our daughter cereal. I have pleased the guests. Suddenly I heard a scream, my wife was screaming that something had happened in the kitchen. I quickly ran to see what happened. My daughter, all red on her face, couldn't say anything. I quickly realized she was choking on her breakfast cereal. At firs,t I didn't know what to do. My whole body was paralyzed with fear. However, I quickly remembered what to do in such moments. I quickly ran to my daughter and grabbed her stomach with both hands. I started pushing for the breakfast cereal to fly out. At first, nothing worked. I try to push first, second, third. Nothing. Then I had a picture in front of my eyes that my daughter would die and I would lose her forever. I tried to push for the fourth time.
I DID IT!
You have no idea how relieved I was after that incident. I suddenly felt lucky and proud that I managed to prevent a terrible accident. A few seconds ago, I felt fear and uncertainty. That's why you see that you never know what can happen in our lives even in one second. After this incident, I began to be more careful about my daughter and watch her every step of the way. Just a moment of inattention and your whole life could change. I'm going to pick on you that something like this has happened in my lie because now I think I'm a better caregiver and a better father.
