SFS Contest Picture of the Day Week 20
Compliments of the season from the motherland-Cameroon @everyone and welcome to my blog as I share my ideas about the contest “Picture of the day”. Before I go into the contest proper, I will invite @crismenia, @m-fdo, and @alviral123 to participate in the contest.
My picture for the day is a plate of achu with yellow soup and enough meat. Achu is a special traditional delicacy that is consumed by the upper Ngemba’s of the grass field region of Cameroon.
Notwithstanding, due to its appetising nature with natural ingredients, the meal has become a common meal consumed all over Cameroon. In the 10 regions of Cameroon, it is pretty much easier to visit restaurants that prepares achieve on their menus.
As seen on the picture, the meal contains varieties of meats which in our local parlance we called “obstacles”. Without these “obstacles”, the meal doesn’t make any sense and no one will even want to eat it. I think it is the presence of these assorted meats that attracts most people to like the meal.
One weird thing about the meal is that you cannot share in the same plate with another person because we used our fingers to eat. Because of this, some people have it the name “sail round the world” 😆 because you used your 2 fingers to go round the achu to ensure that the circle is maintain for the soup to stay intact.
The achu is prepared by boiling coco yams and special banana and pound it in a mortar bowl. It requires a lot of hard work and energy sapping. However, there are modern food processors used nowadays to prepare the achu. Nonetheless, achu pounded in a mortar tastes delicious than the achu prepared from food processor.
For the yellow soup, we used palm oil, limestone, salt, Maggie, special spices like the black bush pepper, countri onion, cinnamon, etc to give the soup a unique taste.
In my village there is no occasion organised without achu amd yellow soup on the menu. In any family gathering, achu must be included as part of the menu. Taking the yellow soup also serves as an antidote for those consuming lots of alcohol. It helps to prevent you from getting drunk.
This is the end of my presentation of “The picture of the day and I hope you all find pleasure reading through this content.
