SLC S22 Week 6 - Herbal Medicine for Menstrual Health

Hope everyone is doing well? My week has been stressful, regardless of this, I have found this time to make this post and hope you enjoy reading through. Thanks to the tutor for this wonderful teaching
Q.1 - Menstrual Support Tea: Prepare a herbal tea targeting menstrual health. Document the ingredients, preparation steps, and benefits of herbs and remedy.
For menstrual support tea, I will use 4 ingredients Measurements
Ginger 1 piece
Tumeric 1/2 tbspoon
Cloves 5 gram
Date 3 pieces
Water 10cl
PREPARATION STEPS
•Peel off the back of the ginger and chop in small pieces
•Wash your cloves and fresh dates to remove dirt. If you don't have fresh date, you can use dey date. I used dried date
•If you have time, you can soak your date few hours before use
• Boil in the water. I used 20cl of water because I want to prepare it in a small portion
•Add your grinded tumeric poweder
•When it boils, allow to cool and filter
•You can store in the fridge or drink immediately
Benefits of the herbs
Ginger
Ginger is a root herb that has so many benefits which I have mentioned everywhere on my blog and will also mention here. Ginger calms the reproductive system by allowing easy passing of the period and hereby making it less painful to the woman. Ginger also has antibacterial and anti inflammatory properties that is vital to the woman's general body function especially during menstruation
Clove
Cloves is known to balance the oestrogen level of a woman which if not balanced might lead to endometriosis, fibroid, etc. It is contributes to the hormonal balance. It is a perfect relief of stress and you know stress affects a woman's menstrual health. It is effective in combating menstrual cramps and even premenstrual syndromes. Cloves can equally facilitate easy passage of blood so it can be less painful (dysmenorrhoea)
Dates
I eat dates a whole lot, but haven't searched on the benefits before, but in course of the project, I searched on the benefits of dates and I was marvelled. Dates are very nutrient enriched food that has so many benefits because of its fibre and essential minerals. Dates promotes digestive health because of its fibre content hereby regulating bowel movements and constipation. It supports a proper blood sugar levels, regulation of cholesterol and it is rich in antioxidants.
Q.2 - Herbal Benefits Research: Research three herbs that help with menstrual health. Include their uses and benefits
From my research, 3 herbs that helps with menstrual health that are easily seen in my country, Nigeria are;
•Cinnamon
•Tumeric
•Fennel
Cinnamon
Cinnamon is a local spice used to add flavour to a soup or drink. It has beneficial properties. Cinnamon decreases inflammation and regulating menstrual cycle of a woman hereby decreasing chances of infertility. Cinnamon is used for reducing inflammation which can trigger hormonal issues . It helps in regulating menstrual cycle and relieving cases of menstrual and premenstrual cramps.
Uses
Cinnamon can be incorporated into your meal by crushing and adding as powder to your meal/soup, it can be taken as a herbal tea, used in making cookies and cakes, it can even be made as cinnamon oil
Tumeric
Tumeric is one herb that I talk about so much powerful anti inflammatory and anti oxidant. It supports adrenaline function, Improve insulin sensitivity. Tumeric reduces stress and anxiety which contributes to hormonal imbalance and as you know, Hormonal imbalance can cause causes of amenorrhea, dysmenorrhoea and even infertility
Uses
Tumeric is a known spice. It is very aromatic and domineering and can even change the taste of the whole food, so it should be put in a moderate quantity. Tumeric can also be used as a herbal tea by boiling the crushed or chopped tumeric root into water. It can as well be made as a oil
Fennel
Fennel is a flavourful vegetables packed by so many health benefits. Fennel is beneficial to a woman because it has anti inflammatory properties that eases menstrual cramps. It also helps to regulate the woman's monthly cycle by balancing the hormone. Fennel is also helpful to reduce oxidative stress which might be a factor for infertility
Uses
Fennel can be used variety of ways. It can be used in culinary by adding it in soups, stir fried, roast and even salad. It can be made as a herbal tea.
Herbal Remedy for PMS: Create a remedy to alleviate PMS (pre-menstrual syndrome) symptoms. Use at least 3 herbs. Write the process, recipe and benefits of herbs and remedy.
To create this tea, I will be using these herbs
•Tumeric
•Ginger
•Cloves
•Dates or honey for tatse

HOW TO PREPARE
•Wash your herbs thoroughly. Then proceed to peel off the skin of the ginger and turmeric and chop them into small sizes. You can also use their grinded form. For the dates, cut them open to ensure they are good. Remove the seed also. Then bring the herbs to a boil. When it cools, sieve and store in a fridge and boil it whenever you want to drink.
The date will ensure the drink has a sweet flavour.
REMEDY
This tea is a remedy to pre menstrual syndrome symptoms like bloating and water retention, breast tenderness, cramping, fatigue, headache, joint and muscle pains
