I have always heard about the act of honesty and integrity and how sometimes situations can test you. I just want to share a scenario that happens to me around 2 years ago when I was still in the university majorly final year back then.

Of course I was to an extent known by my supervisor very well. There was this fateful day, my project supervisor who happen to be a lecturer also called me and handed over examination papers for one other department below my level in the university. It was the 200 level student exam.

He told me that day I will join him to supervise the exam. But he gave me this strict instruction that I must not open the envelope that contains the examination papers until the time for the exam.

Around 30 minutes after he left, some group of students in the 200 level department came to me. They brought an offer of 200k that if only I can allow them see the questions before the exam begin. It was really tempting for me. But at that particular time, I remember what my mom always told me growing up and that is the fact that "Never betray the trust that someone have for you"

My project supervisor really trusted me and so I was not ready to betray that act of trust. I declined the offer brought to me by the students. Trust me around 2023, 200,000 naira was a huge amount of money. I can read it in those students facial expression, they were shocked and at the same time disappointed.

They were shoced that a fellow student in my university can decline their bribe offer of that huge amount of money and at the same time they were disappointed because they thought I will accept so that they can cheat with it and pass the exam.

The major impact that incident caused to me was the fact that it increases the trust that my project supervisor have towards me. After the exam, he eventually found out what happen and in fact recommended me for a grant just because of that act of trust. And trust me that grant helped me because I was able to use it to pay my school fees.

Even though it is more than 2 years that incident happened to me but that single experience taught me the power of integrity and honesty. That incident thought me that no matter what, never sell your integrity and trust for money or anything. A good name is much more better than lot of money.

I invite @sahmie @pea07 @alexanderpeace, @dequeen @shahidalinaz and @ashkhan @yahnel and @m-fdo to drop a very constructive comments on this post and also to participate in this contest.
