Preparing Tomatoes Seeds On Nursery beds for planting on permanent fields

Before the onset of the first rain, some farmers have already planned their first season vegetables crop. We happened to visit some Agriculture demonstrated farm at Kofiase. We learnt that some vegetables farmers have nursed their tomato seeds for the next cropping.

Upon our interview, it was confirmed that the seedlings have reached 2 weeks stage and they were waiting for 3 weeks transplanting stage. Before then, the farmers have to pass the seedlings through hardening off stage.

At two weeks stage, the seedlings were introduced to fertilizers to improve their proper growth.

Weed control was done by hand picking so that the step of the plants would be healthy.

The farmers make sure to avoid diseased crops. So, thinning out is done to remove all unhealthy seedlings. This is done through hand picking.

The tomatoes on the nursery beds are in 10 groups which could cover about 5 acreage space of land. The land has already been prepared and we are waiting for the next rain.
