Today I would like to educate you on how to grow my favourite vegetable Lactuca sativa commonly know as lettuce. If you enjoy salads ygen you must love lettuce as much as I do. It is the foundation of any good salad. During my research for this I was surprised to find out tgat it is the most grown salad vegetable in the USA. Lettuce has varieties such the Green and Red Leaf Lettuce,Romaine Lettuce,Butterhead Lettuce and head lettuce.

The gren leaf lettuce is where my discussion is centered today. It is quite easy to grow lettuce in your garden. Lettuce grow well in spring and fall and tge temperatures of 60 to 70 Fahrenheit. It can be mature in a matter of four weeks.

To grow lettuce properly you need to make sure tge soil is rich in nutrients and get the lettuce seed. Lettuce seeds are often quite small and only require a planting depth of ¼ to ½ inch into the ground. When planting it there should be 10 seed every foot.

Watering

watering should be light, frequent and consistent it it would be encouraged to ensure that the leaves growbetter that the roots. They do not require so much water but the soil need to moist.

Protecting Against Disease and Pests

Aphids are one of destroyer a lettuce patch. Leaves curl and wilt as nutrients and water are sucked away. Aphids also spread disease and create mold issues. You realise these white pests hiding on the undersides of lettuce leaves. There is not any systemic way prevent these types of pest , so our best option is to let their natural predators, such as lady beetles, or to apply a horticultural soap or neem oil.
Harvesting
When the lettuce finally mature you can harvest it. Most lettuce can be harvested between 30 to 70 days after planting. When to harvest lettuce depends on the variety and what you will use it for. You can either cut the entire bundle off at ground level, or you can remove just a few leaves off the plant. It is as simple as that.

To end it all , I would like to thank the @steemfarm-market for giving us the opportunity to share our knowledge with rest of the community.
