Management practices I will follow for my favorite animal farming

Good evening fellow steemians. I hope everyone is doing well? I would like to share with you my favorite animal farming.

Last week I shared a post about Rabbit farming. I explained how profitable it is to engage in rabbit rearing and how easy it is as compared to other farm animals. Upon all the numerous benefits of rearing rabbits, my favourite farm animal is poultry. Though I don't have poultry farm currently, I intend to venture soon.

Poultry farming is the rearing of various domestic birds like turkey, ducks, chicken, Guinea fowl for eggs, flesh and pleasure. It does not require huge start-up capital with the farming as one can start in the comfort of his or her house if you have space to take a small number of birds.

One should equip him or herself about poultry farming business right from setting-up basic equipment to raising the birds and marketing their products.

The steps below is a summary to follow to do poultry farming:

Choose your poultry breed

There are three types of breeds for a commercial poultry farming.
•Broilers which are fast growing breeds and are mainly raised for their flesh
•Layers which are use for commercial for eggs production and then killed for their flesh
• Cockerels unlike broilers are slow in terms of growth. They are mainly reared for their flesh and have a special demand on the market.

Choose a suitable location for the farm.

To every successful poultry farm business, the location is very key. The farming scale determine the size of your farm land. If you want to have a large scale poultry farm you would need to get a bigger farm land. However if you are going for a small scale poultry farming, you can have it at your backyard. The site must be free from the environmental pollution as well as predators.

Choose a good housing system

Another important factor is good housing. The housing should be spacious enough to enhance free movement of birds and must be adequately ventilated and protected from sunlight as wells predator entry.

Provide feeding for your birds

A good and quality feeding is needed in a successful poultry farming. The birds need nutritional feeds to grow. Inadequate water supply can retard their growth, so there should be enough water as well.

Provide proper medication for your birds

Poultry are very sensitive, prone to diseases and proper vaccination is needed to prevent poultry diseases. They are generally affected by viruses and bacteria, so proper medication can put them to a good health state.

Marketing the farm products

Though poultry farming is an already established business, you have to pay much attention to the marketing and sales of your farm produce to increase your profits. You can sell your produce on the local market or big cities. You can as well brand your poultry farm in order to attract more customers.

Poultry is one the most profitable and lucrative farming businesses. Despite the numerous poultry farms globally, the demand for poultry products like chicken and eggs is always high which makes it more attractive business .
