LEARNERS AND TYPES OF LEARNERS
this post is the side to make understand the different types of learners and their characteristics and implications to the teacher
At the of this post I believe you have an overall view of the different types of Learners and how they can be identified and ways by which they can be further helped by the teacher.
Types of Learners.
since two data centres of teaching and learning process is teachers must be able to identify the different types of learners in order to be able to help them.
understanding the different types of learners will be of immense value in assisting the teachers in preparing suitable materials to cater for the varying learning needs.
There are mainly three categories of learners and they are:
(1). Slow learners (Backward Learners)
(2). Gifted and talented learners ( Fast Learners)
(3). Normal learners (Average Learners)
(4). The physically disabled.
the slow learners and The gifted learners are highly problematic whereas the normal leaners need to be stimulated and encouraged to make maximum use of their potential and to develop their individual talents.
The fourth book of learners are those that are physically disabled.
these disabilities have nothing to do with the intellectual capacity to learn they are characterized by different types of physical deformities like deafness blindness and lameness.
today I'll be starting with slow learners and in our next post, I will continue from there.
(1). Slow learners.
slow learners as a category of students who lack behind in virtually all what they do and especially in their school work.
the exhibit new melones learning difficulties that seem to defy all learning mythologist and procedures.
This category of learners is made up of mentally retarded and the learning disabled (LD).
Characteristics of slow learners.
(1). slow learners have a short attention span that is they cannot concentrate for long.
(2). Slow learners have short memory and they don't remember easily what they have been taught.
(3). the slow learners are always bored and generally have no interest in learning.
(4). They have poor communication skills. They are poor in both oral and written languages.
(5). Do you have poor eye-hand coordination. They cannot see properly not even copy correctly.
(6). Their numerical ability is very low and they are very poor in calculation.
(7). Do you have poor social interaction cannot get along with others easily. In fact there's been aggressive behaviour most of the time.
(8). This colour in all types of tests and assessments.
Causes of slow learners.
(1). Health problems: a child mother might have had measles, venereal disease e.t.c that might have caused mental retardation in the child. Or the mother may have been malnutrition during pregnancy.
(2). Psychological problems: mothers who experience intense and excessive anxiety, worry stressed and the like may give birth to disturb children since the mother state of health affect the child.
(3). Genetic problems:
influenza donation in the lineage in rated characteristics from parent may influence the general intellectual development of the child.
(4). Home-based problems:
Broken homes and extreme poverty on the part of the parents may affect the child.
(5). School-based problems:
Poor method of teaching, poor teacher-pupil relationship for example when a child constantly experiences hostility from the teacher, and poor learning environment is not conducive to learning.
I'll be stopping here today and continue from here next time.
