Hi Steemians,

Hope y’all doing great wherever you’re all are in the world 🌍.

The amazing varieties of food and different dishes from around the world amazes me. I’ve eaten weird foods like snails in Brussels [Belgium], frogs in a Papua New Guinea village and really enjoyed the bull penis soup in Kuala Lumpur [Malaysia] 😜. I love food and always wanna try new things.

But for three (3) years now, I’ve ceased eating unclean animals as commanded in the Bible [Leviticus 11].

Well, yesterday I had a meal of sago and coconut, which I will call sago lamington.

Sago is one of our traditional staple foods, common in the lowlands of Papua New Guinea, particularly along waterways and swampy areas where sago palms grow wild. The sago starch is extracted by felling the sago palm tree, removing the hard outer bark and beating the inner solf part to get sago pulp. It is then squeezed in water to extract the starch. Dried sago powder can be preserved and eaten for many months.

Sago is a super food for people with diabetes as it has a low glycemic indexof 27. It makes you full quickly and you can go on for longer periods of time without depleting your energy reserves.

There is significant correlation between sago consumption and cholesterol. “Studies have shown that consuming sago was good for health in that it reduced blood glucose, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides level. Thus, it could reduce the risk of T2DM, and heart disease”, http://www.jscholaronline.org/articles/JFN/Effect-of-sago.pdf

Steps In Preparing Sago Lamingtons

(1). Bring to boil some water in a pot. Whilst the water is boiling, roll the sago into small balls. Best with newly harvested sago that still has moisture.

(2). Once the water boils, drop the sago balls into the boiling water. Once in water, sago becomes sticky so occasionally stir to ensure they aren’t stuck together.

(3). After 10 minutes, remove the sago from the pot and place them on plate of freshly grated coconut 🥥.

Sago is best eaten with fish. The combination is not only healthy but is a staple meal in coastal lowlands of PNG and islands like Manus.

For my meal, I had sago lamingtons with fresh mackerel fish (small) caught in the sea.
