Hey guys,
Last time we talked about Malaria and why we should take it more seriously than we do.

This time around, we will be looking at something different.

Talent

Sometimes we see people succeeding, going places, making it to the news headlines, being at the top of their games, outperforming others, etc. Because they are really good in what they do and all we do is conclude that it is their talent making way for them.

We all know a lot of movie stars, Oscar-winning producers, Grammy-winning singers, Ballon d'or winning footballers, Nobel-price winning intellectuals, etc. We always consider these people to be talented in their various field of play and that sometimes leave us to feel that nature cheated us by not giving us some of those talents.

Before we continue, let's briefly look at what Talent is all about.

WHAT IS TALENT

According to Oxford English Dictionary, the word Talent is simply regarded as "natural aptitude or skill".

The above definition is short but enough for us to understand what Talent really is.
When we talk about nature in this context, we are simply referring to something, a trait or a skill not acquired by hard work.

Having looked at the definition of talent, we will understand that it surpasses what a majority of persons have always thought it to be. Talent is a free gift of nature and everyone has a share of it though maybe, not even.

Talent as we know surpasses physical skills such as being good in combining sounds (making music), being good in acting, being good at sports, being good in dancing, being good in presenting, and a lot more. Talent has to do with the overall trait of a person and not just these physical abilities that sometimes come naturally thereby leaving those without them to think they are without any talent.

I won't be wrong to say that talent is any natural trait, skill, or ability given to one in other for one to thrive.

With the above definition, we will see that talent isn't just about the physical skills but also includes some traits such as being persistent, being consistent, being hardworking, being disciplined, being rational, being focused, and a lot more.

All these natural traits and skills place us on almost an equal level with one another for what one achieves with a given talent, the other can achieve with a different one.

Now let's look at a popular example.

We have two names that dominate world football and they are Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo.

We always hear things like "Messi is talented with the skill of playing football" whereas "Ronaldo is a persistent hard worker".

Talent in different form

Yes, I do not dispute the fact that Messi is talented with football skills but I am adding that Ronaldo is also talented not with football skills but with a different kind of talent which is enough to help him thrive in the field of football and that talent is the fact that he is naturally persistent and hard-working.

What I am trying to say in essence is that not everyone is talented with skill but everyone is talented with either a skill, a trait, or both. And those without a natural skill can learn a skill and thrive well by putting into effect their natural trait in developing that skill.

Having known the above, the question now should be, what is your talent and how well are you using it?
