INTRODUCTION:

My name is @rutthy. I am a 500level student of University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. This post is about my best day on campus. I'll like to add here that what a particular person defines as a best day, may not be another's best day because "best days" can be relative and it depends on the impact it had in your life, hence the reason why you tag it your best day.

Before I start describing how my best day on campus came about, I have a little advice for us here.

A little piece of advice

My advice:

Before you gain admission into the university, make sure you have a sure money plug. What I mean by money plug here is a sure financial backup that will support your university education during trying times when the need arises. You don't always depend on your parents alone. Make sure your have uncles and aunties who are ready to help when you call them.

This advice emanated from my own personal story/experience as an undergraduate because no one advised me before i gained admission, irrespective of the fact that i spent 5 years at home, still i never knew this, but God still came to my rescue notwithstanding.

MY SHORT STORY

I came from a family of 7. I gained Admission into the prestigious University of Uyo after 5 years of writing WAEC/JAMB. Jamb Jambed me and WAEC waeced me!lol. When I finally gained admission to study Agriculture, I thought my struggles were finally over, unknown to me that my struggles just started ooo. Hmm!. I was celebrated with my siblings. Mind you, I gained admission same year alongside my 2 other younger siblings as a result of my several years of writing JAMB. I had only my parents as my sponsors in school, no other uncle nor aunty to support. The first few semesters in Uniuyo was cool, but towards ending of 200 Level, things stated biting so hard that i had only two options before me which were to either drop out of school or to defer my education for one year in order to go and hustle for money. The two options before me were a no! no! because of the already wasted years at home.

I did all manner of businesses in school ranging from working at a construction site, selling of zobo wine and also selling of plastic bottles but all were not just adding up. I also got some part time jobs in some bars and restaurants, but none paid off because of my heavily chocked up timetable in my faculty. I quit the part time jobs as it was really affecting my grades in school. In fact, before I quit the construction work, the money i borrowed from them to feed myself, was even more than my salary self, but they just had pity on me and let me go. That was how I kept on till my final year.

HOW MY BEST DAY BEGAN

One Monday morning after an 8:00am class, a guy which was also a friend of mine came and introduced me to the steemit platform. Initially, I never thought anything good could come out of Nazareth (steemit), because I have tried several get rich quick schemes before which also contributed to my then penniless state. The guy preached so hard and convincingly about steemit, in my mind, I said na dem! I wanted ignoring him, but one thing caught my attention. He said, "Ruth, you do not need to pay a dine to join this platform, since you can write, you can be writing and earning money". I paused for sometime and as an Igbo girl that I am, I asked myself, so what does he stand to gain by inviting me to the platform? Anyways, after much pondering, I decided to give it a shot since I won't be loosing anything to it and here I am today. I can boldly tell you that it was the greatest a and best decision I ever made while in school and I really wished I knew about it earlier. Since then, my stemit journey began and the rest they say is history.lol

WHY WAS IT MY BEST DAY ON CAMPUS?

  • I saw it as an opportunity of becoming debt free.As i earlier mentioned, I quit my job at the construction site with loads of debt. I was owing a lot people including my classmates to the extent that I no longer slept In my hostel under the guise of going to night class to read. Laughs!. Funny enough, the guy who even introduced me to steemit, I was also owing him too.

  • I also saw it as an opportunity to work from the comfort of my hostel. yes, most of other part time jobs i did were very far from school, by the time you deduct your transport from your salary, you end up looking for the remnant.lol

  • It was my best day because i had to introduce my other siblings to it too.

I joined steemit, did my first achievements and started creating and posting contents too. Initially, the turn out was not as the guy preached, it was as if he over hyped it, but towards the second month, I experienced a great massive in my finances, of which I used the money to offset some of my bills.

Till today, anytime I remember this day, I'll smile to myself and be happy I took that decision that day and I'll also be grateful to God for bringing my friend my way.
