CAMPUS CONNECT ENGAGEMENT LEAGUE WEEK 1- EFFECTS OF ASSU STRIKE ON STUDENTS IN NIGERIA 12/04/2022

ASUU embarking on strike has done alot harm than good mostly on the part of students, most students are already suffering from various setbacks caused by Covid-19 and strike that last for 9 months, keeping in mind that (various strikes has occurred since 2013 for a period of Six months, 2014 students also experienced strike for a 7days, 2017 students suffered for a month and five days (36), 2020 was one of the worst case for a period of 9 months students had to stayed at home for most who did not partake in any other activities.

Sadly nothing has been done to better our Education system as of the time of writing this post. This has resulted to many Students making efforts to find something doing as they await the "FG and the ASSU" to come into a better conclusion. As the country is already had enough for everyone most times students do not find something suiting to their choice of career to keep them busy and focused so as not to lack or be side tracked from the field of choice they have already chosen whilst getting admitted into the university, getting frustrated some students had made decisions to discontinue from Nigerian universities or chosen to get admitted to private universities which may be expensive but the number of years for one's program is assured, this is a bad one indeed for loyal Nigerian students who gets their time delayed.

We should keep in mind that cost of living is extremely high is some universities, and during strikes we should remember that House rents and Lodge rents is not stopped but rather keeps on going and students are expected to again when due, is a truly disturbing issue to be dealt with much concern as required.

Upon resumption, academic timeable is rushed, these are they same students who have been away from studies for months inorder to catch-up, this surely leads to many students not performing well in exams and having poor results.

In some organizations and companies age is a factor in selecting who can work for them in some various departments, now considering the industrial acts of strikes which occurs often now than before as the issue has not be given proper consideration and nothing has been done about it since 1999 till 2022 (23years), this setbacks will obviously make many to lose jobs and opportunity in any position age is a factor.

  • When will strike end?
This is a question very student and their parents do ask everytime topics of ASSU strike comes up. Definitely it will end but should we continue in this disastrous way that is robing off students joy and hope in Nigerian university and also in the Nigerian Government?
  • Things Government and the Union should do to end this strike.

Truth be told things are really getting off hands, imagine how much the Nigerian Government are owing in debits. Money allocated for Education is being used for other things, education is being overlooked and place where it should not be. People do say "for a better Country a better education system is needed" no two ways about that.

Now inorder to forge ahead and stop delaying students time in the University, since the Government has said no funds is available, so when borrowing as they normally do let them also keep education sector in mind when borrowing. This is a straightforward action to be taken, they borrow money to other things, let them also borrow money to strengthen and build up the Education in Nigerian, education always payoff. Many students are ready to work hard when given the chance to, Nigerian youths are bagging good grades in other universities abroad many of them had once studied in Nigeria.

We they Nigerian youths and Future Leaders surely deserves better indeed!
