INTRODUCTION

Good day ladies and gentlemen. First of all I'll like to wish everyone a happy Easter. Hope everyone is doing fine? It's always a pleasure to be amongst the great minds of this community. It's always a pleasure to be apart of you all and be able to share my content with you guys. Thank you @campusconnect and @whitestallion for the opportunity. Thanks to the strike, we've successfully spent two months at home. But it all depends on how we've spent this two months. The moment we went on strike, I decided to make the most of it. Apart from developing my IT skills, I decided to go into poultry farming.

AGRICULTURE

We all know poultry farming falls under Agriculture. What Is agriculture?
Agriculture in simple terms is the practice of planting crops and rearing of animals for domestic or Commercial use. Under agriculture, there's what we call animal husbandry. Under animal husbandry we have the following:

  • Poultry
  • Fish farming
  • Beekeeping
  • Acquaculture
  • Sheep farming
  • Goat farming
  • Horse breeding
  • Pig farming

After carefully examining the above mentioned, I decided to go with poultry. I feel like poultry is the safest and budget friendly amongst the rest. I also thought of fish farming but then remembered one day when I visited a friend of mine that practices fish farming at thier backyard. On that very day, he decided to change the water and asked me to help him out. Trust me guys I almost fainted because of the smell of the water. I don't think that's something I can handle.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

4 weeks ago after I made up my mind, I went to market and got myself 10 chicks. Broilers. Each for 600 Naira. I brought them home but couldn't keep them in the cage I built for them because I had cats around the house, so I decided to put them in a carton inside the house. I kept that up for about 2 weeks. When they were a little big, i transferred them to the cage. Feeding them three times a day and cleaning thier cage.

I decided to go into poultry for three main reasons which are:

  1. To make profit: Poultry farming had been recognize among of the most profitable businesses. With the rise of demand for chicken meat, it makes it all worthwhile.

  2. For the experience: This is my First time owning a poultry. I don't know much about it. But do I really need to know everything about it before going into it? I decided if I eventually get confused or have no idea what to do, I'd go back to the internet. I'm sure to find answers there. Gradually I'm beginning to have experience in this business and I'm sure that this is not going to be the last time.

  3. To make Use of some for the upcoming festive season: Eid is almost here, which means the cost of foodstuffs are about to sky rocket. Instead of buying chicken at a ridiculous amount, I could easily just use one or two from my poultry farm. It's as easy as that.

CONCLUSION

There's a saying that goes like this, "time is money". Time is definitely money because the more time you waste, the more opportunity passes you by. Make the most of your time. Learn a skill, invest in anything you believe in and if you definitely put in the work, it'll work out. I'll like to say a big thank you to @campusconnect and @whitestallion . Thank you all for reading and once again, happy Easter.
