Campus Connect Weekly Contest- Week 7- My First Day In Campus/Highschool by @mesonia
My First day in Campus- Faculty of law, Abia State University, Uturu
As I'm about to recount my experience on my first day on campus as a law student, I can't help but laugh at my experiences on that fateful day. I'm glad about this contest as I'll not only entertain you but also keep this for documentative purposes.
THE END Of THE BEGINNING
So, I got admission into the university to study one of the prestigious courses/profession, LAW. With the feeling of happiness came nervousness, fear of the unknown and yes, of life too.
And as I dressed up that early morning from home since I hadn't resumed fully, I could only wonder. With the freedom I had craved that I now got, came responsibilities, more responsibilities and i knew that my years of dependence, of relaxation, of the protection had ended and it was the end of the beginning. I was now aware that all these things I had enjoyed without knowing were things I was going to have to do myself, for myself from now on. Nevertheless, I got dressed in my black and white and I left for Campus.
HOW IT WAS GOING
I wore my facemask and headed for class. I had lectures by 10am that day but of course, I knew I was late but I wasn't going to miss this for anything thinking "Better late than never" but as I thought that, I also remembered, "first impressions matter" but then, it was the nervousness and the happiness that came with it that was playing their rounds.
I got to the faculty and I could see black and white figures walking around but there was this window that I saw most of them standing at . Phew! I was scared....a little bit but I wouldn't let it get the best of me. So, with the protection my facemask gave me (to go incognito), I walked past them with every atom of courage in me and I walked straight in until I sighted a class full of students in and I could see they were already learning.
God! The lecturer was already there but still, I couldn't back down now. So, I mustered up boldness again and I went in. Head first, face masked up and gently ask could to not make a sound but .....I saw eyes turned and looking at me, I felt chills but I still managed to seat down. I brought out my pen and paper, ready to read , write and learn. Then, I felt a tap on the shoulder and she asked me, "are you a fresher?
( Fresher is used to refer to students who had just gotten admission and resumes school)
I said, "mmmhmmm" and she then said to me, "this is not the class for 100Level students".
In my mind I was like, "then what class is it?"
As if she heard me , she replied , "this is 300L class, try looking for yours"
At that point, I didn't know what to think or feel but I managed to get myself together, take my things and leave. When I got outside, ooh Lord! I thanked God for my facemask. It saved me from the embarrassment and excess chills I could've gotten.
Immediately I got out, I asked questions and funny enough, I was directed back to the building where I had seen students standing out. I mentally snacked myself and went in. I was late the first time but this time, I was later than late. Luckily for me, lectures had not started, so, I just joined in the orientation given by the H.O.D president of LAWSA, ABSU CHAPTER ( I would like to withhold his name). At a point, he asked why I was still wearing facemask but I couldn't care less because this facemask had saved a life.
I think it's safe to say that facemask not only protects you from covid but it also saves you from embarrassment
HOW IT ENDED
It all ended in praise ooh. We had lectures and I headed for home. I narrated my ordeal to my family and they couldn't help but laugh. All in, it was a wonderful experience though embarrassing at the time but it's something I can live with. Stories to tell and all, it was memorable.
