Welcome to my blog again because it has been a while I posted.

Today, I will be sharing with you on something very important as it concerns most of us that are students on campus. Just read through, contribute and learn as we help each other.
I will be talking on how to cope with stress on campus

Stress often comes from uncertainty or pressure which can cause people to angrily blame God or ignore him when things are not working as expected. Let's see the definition of stress.

Stress is defined as pressure or worry that is caused by problems in somebody's life.

sourced: Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary 8th edition

Stress will continue to be there and increase as one grows up in life because lots of demands and expectations will keep coming. But the approach to stress management is important as it determines how Successful one will be.

As students on campus, a mild amount of stress is useful as it acts as motivation to getting things done without failure. But it's unfortunate that in our campuses today, Many students do not want to experience stress at all because they are scared of the impact of such experience.

However, there is need to understand and know it's causes, forms at which it presents itself and how to manage it as student while on campus. Factors that induce stress in students can be classified into three namely.

  • Daily life factor.

  • Social factor.

  • Academic factor.

  • Daily life form of stress is associated with issues that include daily activities, financial challenge, major life changes, discontent with one's circumstances e.t.c.

  • Social factor includes dealing with new relationship, balancing academic life with social life, living with or without family members, adjusting to new environment e.t.c.

  • Academic stress is induced through strict schedules, deadliness, low grades, challenging classes, examinations, responsibilities and poor time management. All these joined together mounts pressure on students.

When stress Is allowed to develop in our lives, it can give rise to lot of serious problems like anxiety, depression, ill-health, failure, nervousness, loss of mind and confidence in oneself. Even low self-esteem, despondency and thought of suicide can set in if it is not handled.

The question now is, what then should be our disposition to stress?. Are we to shy away from it? Or allow it to control our emotions, dream, studies, productivity and efficiency? Of course, NO!. Therefore, there are few steps that can be taken to manage stress. They are as follows;

  1. TIME MANAGEMENT:- As a student, you should be able to design a workable time-table and stick to it. Don't give any time to frivolities. To manage your time well and to be productive, you must learn to set priorities right.

  2. BE OPTIMISTIC:- Focusing on the negative aspects of situation burdens one with mental stress. Instead, stay positive and be optimistic through tough times.

  3. SHUN PROCRASTINATION:- The best way to stop procrastination is to get the most difficult task done first. Some tend to avoid stress by procrastinating what they want to do to another time, forgetting that procrastination is a killer of time and can lead to failure. Therefore, shun procrastination.

  4. TAKE ONE STEP AT A TIME:- Instead of being engrossed with all the deadlines, it's better to make a list and sort them out one after the other and ask for help from family and friends when you are under load of stress.

  5. EXERCISE AND GET SOME AIR:- A healthy lifestyle is important for students. Am I right, of course, YES. Instead of engaging in partying and walking about aimlessly, take time to get fresh air and exercise.

  6. READ THE BIBLE AND PRAY:- Apart from your academical work, Give yourself to reading, studying and meditating on the word of God and his promises will bring a soothing relief.

  7. DO SOMETHING YOU LOVE:- If you feel stressed out, why not take a break and do something you really love doing or something that always excites you. It can be listening to music, singing, playing musical instruments if you have , drawing, skating e.t.c. Doing this can cheer up your mood and distract you from your stressor.

Finally, as a student, you cannot shy away from the fact that stress Is inevitable in our day to day activities. Rather, you should know when to say NO in a polite way. Be a man ore woman of time and don't give space for worry and anxiety. Really there are lots of benefits if stress is managed well.
