5 Memory Improvement Exercises

in CampusConnect3 years ago (edited)

These days a lot of people get obsessed with trying to adapt a healthy lifestyle—eating healthy, having gym workout sessions, etc. But, as we may or may not know it, the human brain needs to be exercised too. This is very necessary, especially if you are starting to have regular memory lapses.
You don't have to panic, tho, because there are a couple of brain exercising activities you can take on, to help with better and longer lasting memories.

These exercises include :

1. Read Books Aloud

People who read their books aloud have a tendency to recall most of the words they read out, even more better than the ones who read silently.
If you should speak and hear yourself speaking all at once, it actually helps your brain get to store the information spoken out. This is an exercise you can practice with your friend(s) or even better, by reading out loud to a kid(s).

Listening to audio books is also a great way towards memory improvement. Listening to them engages imaginations in certain regions of the brain in ways far more different and effective than reading silently.

2. Constantly Switch Hands While Performing Daily Activities

You may not have known this, but only about 1% of the entire world doesn't have one dominant hand. Everyone else uses either their right or their left hand for reading, writing, painting, etc.
If you try to switch to the other hand often, it would result in creating more vivid memories in your mind. So, the next time you're cleaning, holding onto something, or brushing, try switching to your other hand.

It might be really hard to adjust to, but, if you keep practicing, it'd get to stimulate your brain in an entirely different way from how it's usually stimulated.

3. Elevate Your Heart Rate At Least 3 Times Weekly

Regular aerobic exercising in the gym or at home goes a long way towards stimulating the brain in turning newly acquired information to memories.

Working out has a very positive impact on memory improvement. Performing aerobic exercises increases the heart's pumping rate and in turn helps the brain store memories for longer periods.
If working out in the gym or at home is not your style, it's cool, tho, because you can rather take walks for at least 3 times every week, and still end up having the same results as those persons who workout.

4. Fist Clenching

As simple as it gets, in a conducted research fist clenching was proven to be an easy and effective brain exercise aiding towards improvement of longer term memory.

The said research concluded with the fact that, clenching on the right hand for 90 seconds results in formation of memory, and clenching on the left results in recollection of memory. In this research 50 adults participants were instructed to remember words from quite a long list of words. Research participants who clenched their fists recalled more words than those that didn't.
Researchers believe fist clenching triggers brain regions responsible with the task of memory processing.

5. Always Try To Have A Good Laugh 😅

This is one of my most favorites amongst all I've mentioned. If you keep forgetting where you left your earbuds or mobile phone, all you need do is have a good giggle or laugh for a bit—as odd as it may sound, lol 😅
This is actually suggested by a research carried out in 2012. Laughter reduces levels of stress hormones, and overall, enhances better visual recollection of things experienced.

SO DON'T MISS THE NEXT OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A GOOD LAUGH, Y'ALL! 😅
