Campusconnect contest : The role of virtual learning in universities

in CampusConnect2 years ago (edited)

Hello guys, how are you guys faring with ASUU still striking? Officially, I saw a tweet from them; @Assuofficial on twitter requesting from students if they had learned any skill since the 107 days of academic strike. I hope they really put into consideration the lives of young Nigerians who are still schooling and those who wish to further their education.

So virtual learning, yeah? I used to thing this kind of learning was impossible and invalid till the outbreak of the corona virus that put the world on it’s toes, shaking economies of literally all the county in the world and also affecting the western educational system. Not to talk of the effect on jobs and marketing (literal buying and selling).

Will virtual learning shape education the way we know it?

The deed has already been done and the online space has become more relevant than it was years ago because anything that affects education and learning is definitely a big deal. Virtual learning is now the way forward as most individuals prefer to have the comforts of their homes while they indulge in learning and educating themselves.

That’s a typical example of eating your cake and still having it, lol.

Virtual learning has made learning fun and easy and we as humans don’t want anything that has too much hassle coming with acquiring what we need/want. And the best part is that, new ideas and knowledge come up almost everyday exposing us all to a world of better endless learning.

Do I think my university will incorporate virtual learning into it’s curriculum? State reasons why.

I attend the Yaba College of Technology (YCT), Lagos and the pandemic really hit us hard during the early days of it’s outbreak. My institution incorporated virtual learning since we were all fighting to reduce the spread and it the whole process was ok. Although I’m currently planning on switching to another school, I still feel YCT lectures it’s students virtually; even if it’s once in a while. So yes, my institution will incorporate virtual learning into it’s curriculum.
The reason is simple. Virtual learning is easy to do. Imagine a student or lecture trying to beat the strong hands of traffic in Lagos, to meet up for a class, one will have to wake up very early. But with the case of virtual education, leaving your home isn’t always necessary.

My experience with virtual learning

Apart from the fact that I get firsthand knowledge effortlessly on how to do stuff, all thanks to the online space, I have also been involved in virtual learning. Then I realized the efficiency of WhatsApp and Zoom as they were the two major social apps that made it easy for me to get my lectures. The very first time I experienced this, I got a message from our class rep asking us to be available at a particular time on WhatsApp. Turned out to be that I was added to a group chat where the virtual lecture held for that day and the days after. It was funny at first but then I got used to it and preferred it to the conventional mode of receiving lecture.

Conclusion

With the experience and fast rise of virtual learning, I strongly believe that the world will continue to evolve. Only those that are keen to trends will reap handsomely from it. My pledge of 10% payout goes to the best student’s community ever; @campusconnectng and this is my participation ❤✌️
Lest I forget, I made a delegation about a week ago and I still haven’t gotten my badge or anything that shows I’m a delegate. ️
