Good day steemians, I am Mohammed Habib from Ghana and I would like to take part in this weeks engagement contest by @campusconnect where I would be writing on my side hustle I do while currently at the University for Development Studies.

Let’s get started.

MY SIDE HUSTLE

My side hustle on campus is that I trade in clothes and slides, ranging from hoodies to trousers. I am also an MTN Mobile Money Agent on campus.

My Clothes and Slides Business: I started this business that was in January last year, that was in my first trimester in Level 300 at the University for development studies.

I decided to go into this business with the little amount I got from Steemit. This was because the money for my upkeep in school was not sufficient to cater for all my needs in school and I didn’t want to pressurise my parents.

The business was doing very well and I made a lot from it. My monthly profits were high as 700 cedis ($80), this was equal to the average amount a primary school teacher was making in my country, Ghana.

Some of our hardworking country reps created the steemit virtual-store where traders like me could advertise our products.
I did my advertisement on the platform and accepted steem as a mode of payment, by business kept on booming.

At the time the buyers would pay for their products, the price of steem would be down, so they had to pay more stern to match the cedi equivalent of the product. By the time I will request for new goods, steem price would have increased massively, giving me double profits.

My Mobile Money Business: This business does not pay like the clothing line business but it also worth it. This is because I do not need to stress myself with constant advertising and phone calls to get customers to patronise my service.

I just sit at the comfort of my hostel and people come around to do their transactions. I earn close to $25 monthly. I see it as passive income since I do little to earn it.

I am also a writer on the steemit platform where I try my best to write and quality content on the platform. I was also an active member of the promosteem community which is how steem-database.

I did my best to promote steemit when I was writing in the promosteem community.
You can check my recent post on promoting steemit here.

HOW DO YOU MERGE BOTH SIDE HUSLE AND EDUCATION ON CAMPUS

Merging both my side hustle and my education on campus has not been a difficult task for me. This is because my side hustle does not demand me to dedicate much time to it for it to grow.

For the clothing line for example, I have been able to harness the full power of social media to advertise my products. I send pictures of my flyers and also my products into my class and school groups.

I also make people who I see have influence on social media post my products. Hence most of my trades are completed online.

The Mobile Money business as I said earlier does not demand any time. I just take my phone to lectures, after lectures, customers would just perform their transactions then I go back home. I do not have to get at a certain location all day like other merchants.

For Steemit, I dedicated a certain amount of time to write posts but this also just like the other two side hustle, I have been able to merge it perfectly with my studies.

As a final year Bsc. Computer Science Student, I have 15 credit hours in a week; this means that for a whole week I attend lectures for only 15 hours. I have more than enough time to spare and should be spending it on something profitable like steemit.

HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU WORK A WEEK ON YOUR SIDE HUSTLE?

For the clothing business as I said earlier, I rely greatly on social media to reach out to my customers. This does not require that much time; 1 hour daily would be ok to do all the necessary advertising and completing the orders of customers.

The Mobile Money business too is a casual business, where I perform transactions anytime, anywhere.

For Steemit I dedicated an hour or two everyday depending on what I am writing, commenting and reading on.

All in all I dedicated 3 hours a day into my side hustle which would be 21-hours a week, the benefits are really worth it since I earn close some people I know who work for at least 45-50 hours a week.

CONCLUSION

One would enjoy tertiary education very well if he/she does not have a problem when it comes to finances on campus. You are able to buy your needs without needing to pressure anyone. You are also able to live a very comfortable life on campus.

My side hustle has exposed me to how the outside world look like, and how to face some of its challenges.

It has also taught me very vital skills like how to relate with costumers, branding and how to sell products. All these skills would be vital for me in my quest to build one of the biggest business in the World of Fashion.

Thank you for @CampusConnect for this exciting engagement challenge.

I invite @abu78 and @tymestwo77 to partake in this contest.

Thank you all for your time.
