"May Day, World Labor D

Let remind ourselves this important celebration which was held on 1st of May, 2024, it's a day to celebrate workers on all over the world. Why do we we celebrate May 1st as workers day? it's because that day is a day to commemorate the fight for better working conditions and workers’ rights also to recognize the achievements of the labor movement, honoring the workers who have fought for better pay, safer workplaces, and improved benefits.

From my research about May day, I come to realised that this started some years back when United States and Europe form an alliance to organize strikes protest against poor working conditions and long hours for workers. So may day is a day to Honour those heroes who fought for the right of the worker.

♦️Being a worker, there's a lot challenges involved. For example, Ai has taken over an opportunity for customer care. unlike before, company employed workers to work as care customer care and other work opportunity but in this digital era, the launching of AI robot has made many people to lose their job or being competitive in other to sustain their job.

♦️People who are working on contracts also face challenge in a way that they don't benefit from health insurance, paid time off, retirement plan which are the necessary things they need. Another challenges they are likely to face is working overtime, delayed in wage payment.

Alert from the challenges face by working in the digital era, there's also a lot of opportunity they can enjoy which I will to explain here:👇

♦️They can work remotely. Working remotely means you can do your job anywhere and anytime, so this opportunity to workers to choose where they live and to balance work with other life commitments.

♦️Now it's very easy to start a business even when you're working. So as a worker, they can establish a small and earn their income while still on the main job.

♦️By skill development; the technology rapidly ha also contributed in creating new job opportunities like in cybersecurity, data analytics, and cloud computing. Learning this these skills as a worker can help them to stay ahead of the curve.

Now let talk about workers in my environment

This mallam here work day and night to supplies water to people who are doing business in the environment. The supplies it to market women, trader, people who are selling along the road and also people who are living in the estate. They earn a little money by this.

This man is selling yam along the road, his boss supply them the Yam and pay them according to what they sold, they can walk to a long mike looking for customer to patronize them.

Now despite all the challenges faced by workers, these issues can be address when and as well create a more equitable digital landscape for workers. Policies such as data privacy legislation, universal basic income, and stronger labor protections can minimize the negative impacts of the digital era.

In conclusion, workers face both opportunities and challenges in the digital era. While technology has the potential to improve our lives, it’s essential that we remain vigilant about the potential downsides and work to build a more just and equitable future for all.
