5 Fruits That Have High Sugar Content

Fruit is a sweet snack that is healthy for the body, but some of it contains high levels of sugar. Maybe some of our favorite fruits actually contain sugar. However, you shouldn't worry too much because even though fruit contains high sugar, it is not too dangerous for your health. The sweet taste of the fruit is obtained from the sugar content in it. The natural sugar in fruit is different from the added sugar found in sweet foods. Glucose, fructose and sucrose are natural sugars contained in fruit. Fruit also contains fiber therefore fruits are digested more slowly. The sweet taste of fruit doesn't necessarily cause blood sugar to spike drastically. This is of course very different from sugary foods where the digestion process is faster. Added sugar will result in a rapid increase in blood glucose.
Even though fruit has many health benefits, some of it contains high levels of sugar. Starting from pomegranates, grapes, mangoes, apples, to cherries, these are the five that have a sweet taste with a fairly high sugar content. Pomegranate, a medium-sized pomegranate contains 38.6 grams of sugar. There is no doubt about this fresh fruit originating from Iran about its health benefits. Fruit contains many important nutrients, such as polyphenol antioxidants which are useful for protecting the body from exposure to free radicals that trigger various diseases.
Grapes, it is known that every 100 grams of grapes contains 23.2 grams of sugar. Grapes contain polyphenol and resveratrol compounds which play an important role in various metabolic processes in the body. Both compounds have the ability to prevent the formation of cancer cells and other dangerous diseases. Mango, mango fruit usually contains 22.5 grams of sugar. Fruit with its refreshing sweet taste also has a high sugar content. Mango fruit also contains a variety of important nutrients such as vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium, and beta carotene.
The various compounds contained in mangoes can reduce the risk of cancer, diabetes, and maintain heart health. Apples, one medium sized apple contains around 20.8 grams of sugar. Apples are rich in nutrients, such as polyphenols and antioxidant compounds. These two compounds can help protect the body from various chronic diseases and prevent decline in cognitive function. Cherries, fruit that is rich in vitamin C and polyphenols is very good for preventing chronic disease. This small fruit can keep cholesterol levels stable and maintain heart health.
