REVIEW OF MY CITY - JELENIA GÓRA 🔍

Jelenia Góra is a city in the south of Poland, in the Karkonosze Mountains. Its name means “golden jay”, which is a type of bird found only here.
This small city like so many others needs to reinvent itself and find new ways of attracting residents and tourists alike.
In this post, I will review the last few years' developments of Jelenia Góra urban planning and analyze its strengths and weaknesses. A successful city needs to have an attractive environment, available jobs for its people, and enough housing to accommodate them all. It also needs to have accessible public transport, green spaces, and quality services (healthcare facilities, schools etc.). In this post, you will learn about some of these aspects that make up a city and how they are connected with urban planning strategies.

CULTURE AND SPORTS 🌄

There are two things that we would like to highlight: culture and sports. These two aspects are very important in today’s society and are therefore likely to have a positive effect on Jelenia Góra’s development. We often hear that people are dissatisfied with their job and the general direction in which society is heading. This has caused a decreased interest in arts and sports and therefore a decreased interest in visiting museums and attending sporting events.

Therefore, events such as the ones organized by the city’s cultural center or the city’s sports and fitness facilities might encourage people to revisit these cultural aspects of life. This is crucial for the development of any town and it is good to see that Jelenia Góra cultural center and sports facilities are investing time and effort in these events. If people gain interest in these aspects again, they are likely to visit the city again. This can have a very positive effect on the city’s economy and development as a whole, so we are glad to see that these sectors are getting so much attention.

ECONOMY

Urban planning is a very broad subject, so we cannot say that one thing will improve Jelenia Góra's development more than anything else. However, it would be fair to say that Jelenia Góra's culture and sporting facilities have been given a lot of attention in the last few years and are therefore likely to positively affect the city’s development. When a city attracts tourists, it naturally attracts new residents as well. Tourism is a very profitable business and one of the most important sectors in the world’s economy. No wonder, then, that cities are investing a lot of time and effort to become attractive to tourists. The more tourists come to visit, the more likely it is that they will stay and visit the city again and again. This will be beneficial for Jelenia Góra’s economy as a whole and will likely cause a positive chain reaction that we have already seen taking place in the city.

Weaknesses: Housing and Transportation

There are two things that we believe are currently holding Jelenia Góra back from developing further: the housing and transportation sectors. These are crucial to any development, yet we often see that city official do not give them enough attention. This is likely because these are two complex issues that do not have an easy solution. As Jelenia Góra is growing as a city, it needs an effective and efficient public transport system to help residents get around the city and travel to neighboring towns and cities.

This is especially important because the city is surrounded by mountains and does not have an airport. If the city does not invest in a good public transport system and a sufficient number of buses and trains, people will have no option but to drive their cars. This will result in heavy traffic and long commuting times, which will negatively affect the quality of life of Jelenia Góra’s residents.

Jelenia Góra is a city in the south of Poland that is climbing out of the shadows of the Karkonosze Mountains and growing as a tourist destination. The city is strengthening its cultural offerings, building new sports facilities, and investing in public transport to create an attractive and sustainable city.

The city's development has been positive in the last few years and we hope it will continue like this. If it does, it will become an even more attractive tourist destination that will bring new residents and new opportunities with it.
