SEC17/W2| While making decisions, what do you prefer to follow: heart or mind?
Hello everyone, trust you are all doing well? It's another week of the engagement. This is a contest that draws our focus on decision-making.
What is your preference while making decisions, heart or mind? |
---|
Decision making is a crucial action , it may be complex or simple. It can be as simple as deciding what meal to have and can be as big as what school to take a professional course. The mind is a higher faculty in the body, located within the brain. It controls out thoughts and actions. There are three levels of the mind: the conscious, the subconscious and the unconscious. We make thought decisions with the conscious mind, that is, we think before doing those things with the conscious mind.
We carry out daily routine with our subconscious mind, these are activities we do without thinking about them, because they are already programmed in our minds by our constant doing of the those things, such as bathing, brushing teeth, wearing clothes, recitations etc. We also act br reflexes with our subconscious mind, such as stepping on a broken glass and quickly taking off the foot, withdrawing after touching something hot. Unconscious mind is not aware of what is going on around, we become unconscious when we are asleep. Certain conditions, such as grave accident, haemorrhage, cerebral trauma etc also render people unconscious and thereby require medical management to come around.
The heart is a part filled with emotions. Although these emotions are also controlled by the brain. They are dominantly expressed in the heart. That is what defines us as human, having a heart that shows feelings of care, empathy, love, concern etc towards others. It is a figurative word for emotions.
When it comes to decision making, certain situations require taking decisions with the mind, some require the heart, and others require using both to arrive at a good decision. For me , most times I make decisions with the mind. Decisions made with the mind are rational decisions, and less errors are made, because they are made based on well-thought reasons.
Do you think we need both in terms of making decisions? Describe reasons. |
---|
There are decisions that will require us to use both the mind and the heart in order to make a good decision. When we use both, we are able to have a balanced decision. We balance our feelings with rational thoughts, this helps us to avoid rushing at a decision.
Are you an emotional or a practical person in real life? |
---|
In real life, I am an emotional person. But I tend to balance these feelings with practical reasons
And some situations warrant me to be to be practical too.
Do you have any suggestions for youth which they should follow in their day-to-day life? |
---|
My suggestions for the youth is that they should not rely on the heart to make decisions. Feelings are fleeting, feelings cannot be trusted. You can feel this way this moment and the next moment you are feeling different. So don't base your choices and decisions on feelings. Rather, decide with your mind. The mind gives you justifiable reasons to do things. And if you have to use your heart in some instances, employ the mind as well to avoid risky choices.

You have really mentioned key point over here and I must say I support you on that. We should always employ the mind to avoid making risky choices
I think you really have a point here. Youth should not rely on their heart to make decisions because it can be wrong at times. They should make use of their mind more often
