Overcoming frustration with resilience

in LifeStyle3 years ago

Frustration is a feeling of helplessness when something that was expected does not happen. It occurs when an expectation or desire is not satisfied.

Most people, when they feel frustrated, go through one of these paths: they escape the situation that led to frustration, ignoring their feelings and giving up what they wanted, avoiding similar situations in the future for fear of being frustrated again, compensate for their frustrations with compensatory behavior effects that can be harmful to your mind and body or let frustration dominate your life until you run out of power.

All of these attempts to eliminate frustration are flaws, generating negative consequences for the future and can lead to serious mental and physical illnesses. However, when we accept the reality of the facts, we believe in our capacity for accomplishment, and we act, frustration is replaced by the strength of resilience.

For physics, resilience is the property of bodies to return to their original shape after being subjected to some change. Applying to us, being resilient is being able to recover or adapt to adverse situations or changes. Overcoming the frustration of something that went wrong, as a result of our attitudes or not, is to practice this resilience.

Clearly understanding the causes of our frustrations allows us to determine which ones can be changed. From individual actions, they can be combated to reduce the negative feeling. For smaller things, such as the frustration of having forgotten the house key, these causes may be clearer.

Self-knowledge to overcome frustration

For deeper issues of our conscience, we need to analyze every frustrating feeling in our day-to-day lives. Seek to understand its origins, preferably with the accompaniment of a psychologist. Understanding each event as an opportunity for change and a chance to do it differently is an objective that is achieved in a short step. First, understanding your actions. Then acting to modify them for your benefit, transforming the feeling of frustration into motivation.

Find the situations in your life that generate frustration. Always ask the question: could I solve this situation differently? Does it really depend on my actions? What can I do to feel more fulfilled about it? If there is nothing you can do, try to free yourself from the hassle. Stop seeing that as a problem.

When you feel frustrated, things to know

  • The world does not revolve around our desires;
  • Your life is not a closed script; there is always room for change;
  • You have the strength to act differently;
  • Every mistake is a learning opportunity;
  • Not everything depends on you;
  • It is always possible to ask for help;
  • It is important to set realistic expectations;
  • Thinking about the worst scenario all the time does not move you forward;
  • Frustration can be a driver of positive actions.

Make your frustrations work in your favor. Make it stronger to overcome challenges in a creative way. Act by overcoming possible obstacles, understanding mistakes along the way, and accepting those that are not dependent on you.
