The rivers of purification

Assalamu Alikum! How are you, everybody? Hope that you are fine and having a blissful day. I am fine, Alhamdulillah. In this post, we will remind ourselves about the ways of purification, after committing a sin. Basically, it is a lecture by an Islamic scholar known as Ustadh Mohamad Baajour Khatira.

I was watching his video lecture of the title “The 3 Rivers of Purification” on YouTube. I wanted to share the messages of the lecture in short via this post. You can watch his short lecture as well to get the detailed information.

As we can take a bath in a river and cleanse the external darts from our body, to remove the inner darts (sins), we have rivers as well. If we can take a proper bath in those rivers, we can purify ourselves from the sins in this world. Otherwise, we have to enter the river of fire in the hereafter. What are those rivers?

The river of a sincere repentance (Tawbah): With a sincere repentance, we can remove all kinds of sins from us. But it needs to be sincere. We know that a sincere repentance has 3 components. a. Stop doing what sin we are doing; b. Regretting every moment that we committed the sin; c. To make a promise that we will never go back to the sin.

Good news is that Allah loves those who do constant repentance.

The river of good deeds (Hasanat): We need to do a lot of good deeds which will drown the evil deeds or sins. Besides repentance, we need to accumulate a lot of good deeds which will ultimately override the sins. There are some easy to do good deeds like dhikr of SubHanAllah 100 times will add 1000 hasanat, , every letter of Quran will add 10 hasanat, or performing a zanajah (funeral prayer) will add a mountain of hasanah etc. Whenever we do a sin, immediately we need to repent, do wudu (ablution), perform two rakat prayers and give some sadakah (charity).

The river of patience during a calamity (bala or musibah): The patience during a calamity removes the largest amount of sins at once. The bigger the calamity, if we do patience, the bigger number/amount of sin will be removed from us.

Let us keep these steps in our mind. Our first priority should be not committing a sin. But if and when we do one, we immediately need to purify ourselves by having a bath in the rivers of purification mentioned above. May Allah grant us repentance before living this world.
