Breast cancer is a malignant tumor that originates in the tissue of the mammary gland. In turn, it is the most frequent tumor in women, although it is not exclusive to women; there is also a very small percentage of men who suffer from it. The breast is a gland whose main function is the production of milk during the lactation period. It is one of the organs that symbolize femininity.
The fact that a person is diagnosed with breast cancer is a great emotional impact. This impact is due to a double reason; on the one hand, cancer is still a pathology very feared by the population. This is mainly due to the uncertainty of its cause and the possibilities of cure. Also, each person, according to his or her beliefs, attitudes and behaviors, will face the disease in a different way.

This disease tends to shake self-esteem and after the diagnosis, there are many feelings of lack of worth, fears, rejection, especially if there is going to be a mastectomy (conservative or total removal of the breast), with the cult of the body that currently exists in society and being the breast an important symbol of femininity, at the level of body image many women report rejection of that part of themselves, they do not like and find it difficult to look at themselves, touch themselves, the issue of wearing necklines, or in a bathing suit.

People with cancer, especially women, have to change many habits in their lives, and face treatments that will affect their bodies in many ways. Their health will weaken, they may feel useless, and many become depressed thinking that they will soon die. It is difficult to put yourself in a situation like this and not feel the same negative feelings. Therefore, it is important that the health personnel and family members, in their actions, act from and for the woman, giving them the necessary courage and encouragement to face this challenge that life presents to them in the best possible way.
