The deflating day

in LifeStyle4 years ago

I'm usually accepting of a bad work day; It's work after all and it's not there to be incredibly enjoyable. I get paid to be there, perform my job function and gain results...So I'm ok when it's not a particularly great day. Lowering expectations of my working life makes it all that little bit easier to deal with considering I have little choice in the matter - Right now I still have to work to live.

Yesterday though...Well, it was deflating.

As you can see in the images I had a bit of a flat tyre. Bit of a flat is probably an understatement though...It was flat, on the rim flat.

I pulled up and, after a little bit of cursing got to changing it, not helped at all by the 35°C temperature and full-sun location...Or the fact I was dressed for work; That is to say formally. It kind of sucked.

I was on my way soon enough though, with that stupid looking space-saver tyre mounted, and headed to a tyre place to drop the flat one for repair. I figured I'd staked the tyre on the road; A screw, nail or the like. That was yesterday.

Today the tyre guy called me and said, bro, you punctured the side wall, the tyre is fucked. I know the guy well so he is less than formal.

It's going to cost me $355 for the tyre replacement...Ouch right? What's worse is that the rest of the tyres have 22,000km on them and I'll have one new one...That doesn't suit my mildly OCD nature well at all. I'll not physically feel it when I'm driving the car of course, but inside, I'll feel it every time I drive the car!

It is what it is though. Sometimes bad things happen and I suppose when they do, especially if minor like this one, one must simple hit the reset button.

I'm glad I took my town car to work yesterday instead of my Landcruiser or that $355 would have been almost $500 for the tyre, and mis-matched tyres on my 4x4 would probably just about kill me inside.

I'm glad that I was driving when it happened, not my wife, so she didn't have the hassle of being stuck in the heat on the roadside or of having to call roadside assistance for the tyre.

I'm glad my appointments were flexible enough, and willing, to reschedule so I won't let them or the company down...Or my budget.

I'm glad that I have the money to rectify my tyre issue without mush stress because I know that unforeseen things like this can really upset some people's budget.

Are you seeing a pattern?

Sure, I swore and cursed when it happened. Yeah I was annoyed. Of course I'd rather it didn't happen...But it did and I had to make a choice to either let the event define me and my day or accept the event, reset with some gratitude as above, and then just move on. I mean, it could have been far worse right?

Life is full of twists and turns, trials and tribulations, is something my recently departed father would often say and he's not wrong. What defines us is not what happens, but what we do when it does.

So, that was my deflating day. Not too bad as far as days go really; I've had far worse as most of you probably have also. There's no point ranting too much and a great deal of point to simply moving life forward as best I could, and to wait, expect, new challenges in the future.

And you? Have you had a deflating day in which something went a little askew? What happened, why, and how did you deal with it? I'd like to know, so please drop some comments if you like.

I hope you had a spare tire with you?

Of course, it could have been much worse. You didn't have an accident and didn't get hurt, and that's the main thing. And such accidents happen, and no one is immune to them.
You can read more info here about tire problems. Like other parts of the car, Rubber tires are subject to wear and tear. Moreover, let's consider the fact that they are directly contacting the car component's asphalt surface. The reasons for gradual destruction become obvious. If you follow all the recommendations, you will be able to use the tires for several seasons, significantly saving your car's maintenance budget.
