We plant out corn denser. 25 cm between "holes" and 2-3 seeds in each hole. Then 3 rows each 25 cm apart, in an 80 cm wide raised bed. Love the corn plantation plans! Get some paper bags to prevent cross pollination of the different varieties.
Yeah, we hit freezing once this week, and i think it's supposed to freeze again next week too. Kinda scared.
Good to know about the planting density! I was really afraid of having to dig a quarter mile of rows. It could be done, but Melissa would be really angry at me lol
As for pollination, I intend to manage that with alternated planting so that hopefully the varieties will tassle at different times. But I wonder if the paper bags would help with corn ear worms. That's what I got BT spray for, but if I don't need BT, I like that better.
For the worm, a simple cheese cloth bag would probably do, if it's... baggy enough. As long as it doesn't allow the moth to lay the eggs in the hairs.
