Australian Storms
A shot from the storm season in Australia. I took it just before dusk on our ridgetop property at Laguna looking over the Wollombi valley towards the Watagan mountains. The highest point is Mount Warrawolong at 641 metres (2,103 ft) above sea level, which is taking a direct hit of lightning in this shot. The severe storm season sees an increase in storms due to the increase in energy provided by the sun during the warmer summer months, coupled with weather patterns that are favorable for storm growth. The Watagan Mountains, or Watagans, is a mountain wilderness area that forms part of the Great Dividing Range, located in the Hunter region of New South Wales, Australia.
I have had a few people request my shot specifications, so for those that are interested this is a 13sec exposure at f/11, ISO 100. Its taken on a Canon 6D using a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS set to 100mm focal length.
