Hello dear steemians! Some time ago I made a post related to the images we use in our posts.

So I want to share again not only the sites where you can download images legally, but also show you what to do and what not to do with them.

This is a very common problem and mistake, as much in newcomers as in steemians that have been here for a while.

What you shouldn't do

There is something that I've seen a lot in different posts, and it's the use of images that have a watermark. So we can see something like this in some posts:

If one picture has a watermark, that means that image isn't allowed for free use. You actually can have some problems by using them. For example, in this post, I choose not to use the image, but to take a screenshot to show you how the picture looks. Because It's not a picture that I can use freely, I have to pay for it.

There are some free applications that offer you to delete (for free) that watermark, but that's also forbidden. Again, you can be involved in issues by doing that, because there are codes in every file you upload to the internet.

Remember that on the internet there exist plenty of rules about author rights, and photos are not out of that. This is very similar to the plagiarism topic.

So... How to do things right in relation to the images?

The next points apply for EVERY post you share:

1 - When you are using a picture that belongs to another author

You have to share THE SOURCE. This is fundamental, and you can't ignore this step. Always cite wherein did you get that image from.

2 - When you are the author of the post

Offer details of the device (camera or mobile phone used). Model at least. It's no use if you just say: I took them with my cell phone.

Now... Can you use any pictures you like? ... The answer is NO.

And remember these rules on #steemit

• This is a platform that doesn't allow plagiarism. Your content has to be original and so your pictures. If you make research, remember to cite the source. Same thing to photos.

• The more "handmade" your content is, the better. I mean... there will always be better if you can take a picture on your own and share it with us. That will give your post a touch of uniqueness.

Este es un problema y un error muy común, tanto en los recién llegados como en los steemianos que llevan un tiempo aquí.

Lo que no debes hacer

Hay algo que he visto mucho en diferentes publicaciones y es el uso de imágenes que tienen marca de agua. Entonces podemos ver algo como esto en algunas publicaciones:

Si una imagen tiene una marca de agua, eso significa que no se permite el uso gratuito de la imagen. De hecho, puedes tener algunos problemas al usarlos. Por ejemplo, en esta publicación, elijo no usar la imagen, sino tomar una captura de pantalla para mostrarte cómo se ve la imagen. No es una imagen que pueda usar libremente, tendría que pagar por ella (o comprar la imagen o en este caso tener una suscripción paga de Canva).

Hay algunas aplicaciones gratuitas que te ofrecen eliminar (gratis) esa marca de agua, pero eso también está prohibido. Nuevamente, puedes involucrarte en problemas al hacerlo, porque hay códigos en cada archivo que cargas en Internet.
