Today I started my activity earlier because I wanted to morning workout. After waking up in the morning, I immediately cycled around the only reservoir in this city, namely the city of Lhokseumawe. I also didn't forget to take some photos of the reservoir and river through using my smartphone camera that I brought with me, for me to share in my post this time. Lhokseumawe City is the city where I currently live. Lhokseumawe City is a small town located in Aceh, Indonesia. When talking about reservoirs and rivers in this city, it will focus on one place only because there is only one reservoir and one river in this city, which are located close together. The reservoir is called Lhokseumawe reservoir while the river is named Krueng Cunda. The word "Krueng" itself means river while "Cunda" is the name of a village located in the vicinity of the river. Above the river, there are two bridges that connect the transportation system between the two islands in this city. The first bridge is used as the entrance to the city while the second bridge is used as an exit. The river flow and reservoir are connected to each other by a gate that can be opened and closed to regulate the amount of water flow in the reservoir. The reservoir is located right beside the river flow. When the sea level drops, the river flow will flow towards the sea, while when the sea level rises, the water flow from the sea will flow into the river.

The Lhokseumawe Reservoir and the Krueng Cunda River are also recreational areas for the local community to exercise, fish or sit back by the river or on the reservoir. Throughout the year the weather here tends to be stable, not too cold and not too hot, always ranging from 25 °C to 35 °C so it is very suitable for doing these various activities here. Many people are cycling or jogging here in the morning. There are also many cafes around the reservoir which are opened from late afternoon to evening so that many visitors can sit back and enjoy the view on the riverbank while fishing or eating food and enjoying a glass of coffee.

Apart from recreation, these reservoirs and rivers are also a source of livelihood for some people living around rivers and reservoirs. Some of these people work as fishermen who catch fish in the river and there are also those who cultivate fish in the river by making a kind of floating pond in the middle of the river.

These reservoirs and rivers are good enough now and are very supportive for the community. Every year the reservoir is always cleaned by the local government so that the environment around the reservoir is maintained, especially it must be free of garbage. Apart from garbage, the mud that has accumulated at the bottom of the reservoir also needs to be cleaned by means of dredging. This cleaning is usually carried out at the end of the year or mid-year using several heavy equipment such as excavators to dredge garbage and mud piles so that the reservoir always looks clean. Unlike the reservoir, the Krueng Cunda river does not need to be cleaned again because it looks quite clean. Environmental cleanliness is important in order to protect the ecosystem of living things around it, including humans.

Hari ini saya memulai aktivitas lebih awal karena saya ingin berolahraga. Setelah bangun tidur di pagi hari, saya langsung bersepeda mengelilingi satu-satunya waduk yang terdapat di kota ini, yaitu kota Lhokseumawe. Saya juga tidak lupa untuk mengambil beberapa foto waduk dan sungai tersebut menggunakan kamera smartphone yang saya bawa, untuk saya bagikan pada postingan saya kali ini. Kota Lhokseumawe merupakan kota tempat saya tinggal saat ini. Kota Lhokseumawe merupakan salah satu kota kecil yang terletak di Aceh, Indonesia. Jika berbicara tentang waduk dan sungai yang terdapat di kota ini, maka akan tertuju pada satu tempat saja karena hanya terdapat satu waduk dan satu sungai di kota ini, yang letaknya berdekatan. Waduk tersebut bernama waduk Lhokseumawe sedangkan sungai tersebut bernama Krueng Cunda. Kata "Krueng" sendiri berarti sungai sedangkan "Cunda" merupakan nama sebuah desa yang terletak di sekitar aliran sungai tersebut. Di atas sungai tersebut terdapat dua buah jembatan yang menghubungkan sistem transportasi antara dua pulau yang terdapat di kota ini. Jembatan pertama digunakan sebagai jalan masuk menuju ke kota sedangkan jembatan kedua digunakan sebagai jalan keluar. Aliran sungai dan waduk tersebut saling terhubung oleh sebuah gerbang yang dapat di buka tutup untuk mengatur jumlah aliran air di dalam waduk. Waduk tersebut terletak tepat di samping aliran sungai. Ketika ketinggian air laut turun maka aliran air sungai akan mengalir menuju ke laut sedangkan ketika ketinggian air laut naik maka aliran air dari laut akan mengalir menuju ke sungai.

Waduk Lhokseumawe dan sungai Krueng Cunda juga menjadi salah satu tempat rekreasi bagi masyarakat sekitar untuk berolahraga, memancing ataupun duduk santai di tepi sungai maupun di tepi waduk. Sepanjang tahun cuaca disini cenderung stabil, tidak terlalu dingin dan tidak terlalu panas, selalu berkisar antara 25°C sampai 35°C sehingga sangat cocok untuk melakukan berbagai aktivitas tersebut disini. Banyak orang yang bersepeda maupun jogging di sini saat pagi hari maupun sore hari. Terdapat juga banyak cafe di sekeliling waduk yang buka dari sore hingga malam hari sehingga banyak pengunjung yang dapat duduk santai menikmati pemandangan di tepi sungai sambil memancing ataupun menyantap makanan dan menikmati segelas kopi.

Selain untuk rekreasi, waduk dan sungai tersebut juga menjadi sumber pencaharian bagi sebagian masyarakat yang tinggal di sekitar sungai dan waduk. Sebagian masyarakat tersebut bekerja sebagai nelayan yang menangkap ikan di sungai dan ada juga yang membudidayakan ikan di sungai dengan cara membuat sejenis kolam terapung di tengah sungai.

Waduk dan sungai tersebut sudah cukup baik saat ini dan sangat mendukung bagi masyarakat. Setiap tahun waduk tersebut selalu dibersihkan oleh pemerintah setempat agar lingkungan di sekitar waduk tetap terjaga, terutama harus terbebas dari sampah. Selain sampah, lumpur yang telah menumpuk di dasar waduk juga perlu di bersihkan dengan cara dikeruk. Pembersihan tersebut biasanya dilakukan pada akhir tahun ataupun pertengahan tahun menggunakan beberapa alat berat seperti ekskavator untuk mengeruk sampah maupun tumpukan lumpur agar waduk selalu terlihat bersih. Berbeda dengan waduk, sungai Krueng Cunda tidak perlu dilakukan pembersihan lagi karena sudah terlihat cukup bersih. Kebersihan lingkungan merupakan hal yang penting demi menjaga ekosistem makhluk hidup di sekitarnya, termasuk manusia.
