The second week of season 20 is already here. An excellent engagement contest by this community is called "SEC | S20W2: How to cultivate a paddy". It is a very nice competition that will teach me about rice cultivation and its conservation methods. Let's get started. What is the method of rice seedbed preparation and what steps are taken in preparing the soil for rice cultivation

Bangladesh is an agricultural country, eighty percent of people are involved in agriculture. I have been living in the village since my childhood, so I know almost everything about the steps to be taken in our land, from picking rice seeds to harvesting rice. It will be very easy for me to explain to you.

First of all, the place and the soil must be selected for making the seed bed. Because the seed bed is better in good soil and not a place where duck-faced or various insects can spoil the seed bed. Loam should always be selected for making seed beds. Then it should be cleaned well. First it should be cultivated once and left for some time so that the grass or anything else dies. Then it should be plowed with mud and care should be taken that the land should be leveled all around so that water does not accumulate on any side. The softer the soil, the better the seed bed and the more the seeds will germinate. Then the rice seeds should be sprinkled on this muddy soil. After that, when little sprouts come out, water should be given. Care must be taken that till the rice seedlings grow, I should not be less. If there is no water in the seed bed, the seedling may die. And from time to time you have to watch if the insect is attacking the rice seedlings.

Soil preparation methods for rice cultivation.

The success of rice cultivation depends a lot on good seed beds and soil preparation. For this the land should be cultivated well. Since modernity has come in farming, the land has to be deeply cultivated with power tillers. Then the required organic fertilizers like cow dung, compost manure etc. should be applied to the land. Chemical fertilizers should also be used in required quantity. If the land is high and low, it should be leveled with a ladder and a spade. If there is waterlogging in the land, water drainage should be arranged. After doing all these things, when the paddy is suitable for planting, it is expected to get a good harvest if the paddy is planted.

What is the importance of planting rice seeds at the right time?

Planting rice seeds at the right time is a very important aspect of rice cultivation. It affects crop health, growth and ultimately yield. So we have to have knowledge about the varieties and seasons of the crops in order to plant at the right time. Monsoon and dry season are suitable for our country.

Proper timing of rice cultivation has some importance, crop productivity, proper timing of rice cultivation leads to good crop yield and good quantity of crop can be produced. Besides, if paddy is cultivated in the monsoon season, the crops get enough water from the rainwater, so there is no need for additional irrigation water. Moreover, if paddy is cultivated at the right time, one can get rid of various types of insects and the crop is largely free from various diseases. As the weather changes, so does the crop. So we have to plant rice seedlings at the right time.

How is regular irrigation and fertilizer applied after sowing rice seeds?

Regular irrigation and fertilizer application after sowing of rice seeds is a very important part of rice cultivation. It is essential for healthy growth and good yield of rice plants. Therefore, when sowing seeds, all types of fertilizers should be applied except urea fertilizers such as TSP, potassium should be mixed together so that the fertility of the soil increases. After some time, when the roots are attached to the ground, then urea fertilizer should be applied, the rice plants will continue to grow black and big.

A lot of water is required for paddy production. Regularly inspect the land and see if there is water, water should be kept all the time and if the irrigation system is not good then the crop will not be good. However, the fertility of the land depends on how much fertilizer should be given. Spraying can be done when the paddy plant becomes thick and it is difficult to fertilize the soil. When should we try to use more organic fertilizers in the land because organic fertilizers increase the soil fertility more.

What are the major pests and diseases of rice crops, and how can they be controlled?

Various types of insects start attacking rice within a few days of planting. Due to this every year many crops are lost in our country. And there are remedies, we have to follow them, then the harvest will be good. In our country, the most common insect attack during paddy cultivation is locusts. Locust is an insect that eats the leaves of the crop and causes the crop to die. It disrupts the growth and normal condition of crops. Pesticides are applied to the land to protect against the attack of this insect. It repels insects.

Moreover, the virus attacks rice only after the green leaves begin to emerge after cultivation. Leaves drop from the stem due to virus attack. In this the young leaves are shorter and wider.
Rice blast disease causes small eye-like spots on rice leaves. At some point they grow and merge with each other. It burns the rice leaves. In this disease, the leaves of rice harden and rust. As a result the leaves become thin. Leaves break easily.

Because of the above diseases rice is not good so we need to take some control measures which can protect the rice plant from insect attack. Most diseases are caused by deficiency of such vitamins and other minerals. So apply moderate amount of urea and other fertilizers to the land. Irrigation should be done before protecting the soil. Of course the land must be cleared of weeds regularly. Weeding should be done at least three times per crop. Also various methods can be used to protect rice from diseases and insects. Of course, it is important to apply the methods correctly and correctly.

What are the next steps after harvesting the paddy and what are the steps to be taken to preserve the paddy?

After harvesting the rice, the farmers have several important tasks ahead of them. By proper care and storage of rice, produced rice can be kept in good condition for a long time. Paddy should be threshed as soon as possible after harvesting. The color of paddy is bright if mat, chaat or polythene is spread during threshing. The threshed rice should be dried well. It is best to use sun, wind and shade together during drying. The selected paddy should be kept in clean, dry and airtight containers.

And if we want to store this rice for a long time, we have to take some steps such as the container that will be used to store rice, it should be cleaned and dried well. Care should be taken that the moisture content of rice is low. And if the humidity is high, insects will catch on the rice and if the spoiled rice is kept in an airtight container, the chances of insects catching are less. During the storage of paddy, regular checks should be done to see if any insects have attacked the paddy. If we can take all these steps then paddy can be stored for a long time and later it is easy to market and get good price.
