Hello friends and welcome to my article in the great SEC: S20/W3 in this great community. I would be sharing my thoughts in this respect and may the best contestant win the challenge.

When you visited the crop field, what pests did you observe there? How did you identify that it was a pest?

I visited granny, garden, there were lots of beautifully planted fruits and crops, shot trees and all that. This is really a beautiful place to be. There were lots of beautiful plants. I came closer to plug up some spinach and admire the maize crops.

Moreso, I heard creepy movement in the little field. I got attracted to these movements in the maize plant. The stem and leaves were moving in somewhat reckless abandon, I got curious and went closer quietly to see little rodents feasting, squeaking and meddling fondly with the maize! I got surprised at the sight as my jaw dropped in awe.

Importantly, I identified it as a pest because it was destroying the maize stalk and the maize fruit, it was also causing a distorted movement in the plant, as the plant was shaking effortlessly. On a closer look some spill of maize grain littered the area and some fallen leaves alike too.

Which pesticides do you think are suitable for controlling the pests you observed in the field? Please express your own opinion.

After this prolonged sight, I decided to tell granny what I saw and the family members alike. There was indeed a solution at hand. She promised that they have manual traps which she bought from a local bush hunter. I was interested and she showed me one of the traps. It was really a big and beautiful trap. She said little baits of fish sardine, well prepared would be smeared on the trap for the rodent which I saw earlier.

However, the bait trap was enhanced and everyone got into action. The field was baited with this trap at strategic positions. The sumptuous aroma of the bait rented the air and everyone kept awake to see the outcome. After about 18 hours we visited the farm quietly, we were attracted by the multiple squeaking and squealing sound gotten from the farm. Most rodents were trapped others dead a count of about a dozen was counted and I guess we were happy our farm was clear off this pest after all.

Describe the method of trapping insects by creating a pest trap various natural materials (such as container, adhesive substances)

The case study in my article remains the trap used to curtail the rodents in oir garden. The trap was made of copper, rods intertwined to a polished plywood wood which has strings attached at both ends with the bait as fried fish debris, this bait had a clip revolver which when touched would clip anything that comes its way. The mechanical method of trapping this rodent worked so well and we smiled as our garden was free from these terrorizing pest too.

Discuss in detail which crops you think the use of bio-chemicals is beneficial and cost-effective

From my understanding the best alternative to the mechanical approached used in my case study would be fumigants. The rodents needs oxygen to survive. Therefore if they lack oxygen they cannot thrive in such environment. They do have the quest to live, so the more concentrated the fumigants are greater the chances of the rodents leaving your farm.

Importantly, choose a fumigants which has no side effect on the plants more especially the maize plant. This would enhance the efficiency in carrying out its task of destroying the rodent pest in the farm. I would love to believe that the fumigants are cost-effective and would be bst on the maize plants to drive away pest, mot especially rodents.

Make a chart of which pesticide are used which pest in your area and discuss with us. Special Note; if not aware of this, a permanent farmer or anyone involved in agriculture can take help.

There are some pests that are currently in observed to be characteristic in the maize plant which I know about. There are the stem borers, western corn rootworm, maize weevil, thrips amidst alot more

Observations and suggestions:

Nice to hear you visited your grandma's garden. The artifice of rat catching was amazing bro. A lot of patience is also required to catch the mouse after 18 hours 😀. Aerobic insecticides work well to repel rats. If you want to use chemical materials, you can use aluminum phosphate in the holes. It does not harm the environment.

Thanks so much my dear friend for stopping by my article dropping such beautiful feedback on my article.

Hello my bro, visiting Grandma Garden is really good because you were the first to notice that her maize 🌽 is getting destroy my pests.
Normally birds always destroy maize in the farm and last year was my most terrible day as a farmer because birds dealt with my maize and i had nothing to harvest.

A local trap is veey glld in chasing away pests from the farm, whenever i notice such in my farm especially rabbits i know how to catch them for consumption because i live eating bush meat.

Fumigation is simply the most effective way of getting rid of rodent.
Thanks for sharing bro, i enjoyed reading through your blog.

Success 🙌 and may God bless you 🫂

Such an effective pest control solution is truly commendable. This will save farmers from huge losses. Good luck for this contest.
