Animal Activities #04
Hello friends welcome to my blog
Animal feeding habit refers to how animals get and eat their survival food. Different animals have various feeding habits which are:
- Carnivorous
- Herbivorous
- Ominivarious
- Detritivores
- Decomposer
Carnivorous These are animals that feed on flesh or meat. They could get this meat from their fellow animal or human flesh. Examples of animals that fall into this group are wolves, lions, sharks, snakes and Eagels.
Examples of their food types
- Large animals hunt and eat the meat of their prey
- Large marine animals feed on other little fishes
Herbivorous These groups are animals that feed primarily on plants like grasses, seeds, fruits, nuts and vegetables. Examples of these animals are Panda, horses, cows, antelope, zebra, elephants, goats, deer, rabbits, sheep, squirrels, monkeys and parrots
Examples of their food types
- Leaves
- Roots
- Steams
- Vegetables
- Grasses
Ominivarious They feed on both plants and animals to survive. Examples of omnivores are humans, bears, pigs, chimpanzees and crows. They are also called opportunistic feeders as they can consume and digest both plants and animals.
Examples of their food types
- Meats
- Vegetable
- Animal products
- Fruits
- Grains
- Fish
Detritivores These are organisms that feed on debris and waste, such as dead animals, plants and excreta from both humans and animals. They consume this waste and break it into smaller pieces. These organisms play an important role in the ecosystem as they recycle organic matters that help improve the soil and plant growth.
Examples of detritivores are bigger insects, snails, earthworms, nematodes, Crabs, fungi, protozoa, millipedes, woodlice, termites and Sea cucumbers.
Examples of their food types
- Dead plant
- Decay leaves
- Human and animal faeces
- Decay wood
Decomposers These are organism that feeds on the dead waste of plants and animals, just like detritivores that consume dead organic waste, but decomposers break down this dead organic waste into smaller particles, which in turn release nutrients that provide fertility to the soil. This is another means of balancing the ecosystem.
Examples of decomposers are Yeast, water mold mildew, bacteria and fungi
Examples of their food types
- decompose organic materials
Knowing all these different animal feeding habits helps ensure proper nutrition and sustain a balanced ecosystem.

MODs Comment/Recommendation:
We had good classes on animals and their feeding habits in school, this wouldn't even leave our memory till now.
