Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #20
ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM!
I hope that all are fine and learning new every day. I have posted in various communities, and this community @steem-agro seems to be very productive to me. As I am a Pakistani and Pakistan is basically an agricultural country. To connect with agriculture myself and my other fellows I am going to write a post in the contest named Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #20.
Birds are the best creatures of God and they are useful in our life. As to concern is the agriculture so it has a lot of benefits. So let's start with the question asked:-
What are the roles and functions of birds in agriculture?
The natural ecosystem of agriculture is balanced by the help of birds. They eat the various harmful insects and maintain the natural balance. Saw the various pointed-out functions and roles of birds:-
1.Pest and Harmful Insect Control
Birds are the biological pest control in agriculture. They play a role in eating various harmful insects and are best in various fields.
The harmful insect and poisons created by them is also a threat to the fields. As the birds are eating them naturally and reducing them from fields. For example, the caterpillar and grasshopper are serious threats in our region, but when they are eaten by birds, their number has decreased**, which are harmful to various crops and are used as food by owls, hawks, eagles, and falcons. In this way, they reduce these pests from the crops.

2.Assistance in Pollination
Birth plays an important role in pollination. Mostly, the pollination of various plants is done by the source of birds. When they sit on the various flowers, their pollen grains are stuck to their body, and by flying from one flower to another, their pollen grains are also transported. In this way, they also act as pollinators. The example of honey bee is familiar to all of us.
3.Seed Dispersal
Birds play an important role in the distribution of seeds and help in transporting them from one place to another. You must have often seen bird droppings falling on different crops and growing among them. With the help of the body, dropping and transporting the seeds and pollen grains are distributed from one place to another. Some birds eat the seeds or bury them by pinching them with their feet or by dropping their vessels, which contributes to dispersal, such as pigeons, crows, etc.
4.Improving Soil Fertility
The soil fertility depends upon the number of nutrients in the soil. These nutrients may be in the form of fertilizers or wastes. Their components are sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium,m, etc. The dropping of birds contains all these components. When they are added to the soil the fertility of land has been increased automatically. The number of nutrients is increasing due to birds indirectly increasing soil fertility.
Bird droppings contain nutrients such as sulfur, nitrogen, and potassium, which are essential for any crop. It plays an important role in naturally increasing the fertility of the soil. In this way, they are dropping these chemical fertilizers into the earth.
5.Maintaining Ecological Balance
Ecology is the study of the balance between natural elements and the harmful effects of organisms in the same environment. The birds are important for natural ecology balance due to their aspects. These aspects are seed dispersal, removing insects, pollination helper, and decreasing pests from the environment by eating. From 1958 to 1962, when they are was a campaign to kill harmful sparrows in the fields in China, a great explosion of insects was faced due to this action.
What crops are most likely to depend upon birds and why?
The reason behind the dependence of crops upon birds can be described in the following three steps:
.pollination
.seed dispersal
.pest control
By this, they can survive better, make a reasonable yield, and also promote their plant growth.
1.Pollination depending crops
Some fruits and vegetables depend upon birds for their pollination.Papaya, Banana, passion fruits, coffee, and avocado require birds for their pollination. Due to the cross-pollination of these crops, their yield has been increased. Almost every crop requires birds in different ways.

2.Seed dispersal depending on crops
Seed dispersal is necessary for every crop, whether it is done by man or birds. The birds dependent crops are fig trees, berry plants, date palms, oak trees, and palm trees. Their dispersal is done by various birds.
4.Pest control depending on crops
Many insects and other organisms affect the yield of a crop. The green crops include wheat, rice, corn, and barley, depend upon birds for pest control. Fruits like apples, grapes, and citrus are also pest dependent.
How do birds contribute to global food security?
The world is now facing a food shortage issue in various parts. The reason behind it is the pest's attack on the food crops. But when the birds eat those pests, there will be no damage to crops. The food yield has been increased. Certain types of birds, such as owls and jays, are helping farmers by eating crop pests. This reduces the use of chemical fertilizers and increases natural fertilizers. Bird droppings, which contain sulfur, nitrogen, and other elements, are beneficial for crops. They maintain ecological balance by controlling the population of small animals. Protecting birds is a source of food security for future generations through transportation.
Briefly discuss the economic value of birds' contribution to agriculture.
Some economic contributions of birds in the sector of agriculture are the following:-
1.Reduce Farmer Expenses
As the birds act as Natural biological pest controllers. So, farmers had to not invest in buying this pest controller medicine. In this way, the expenses of farmers decreased.
2.Boosting Agriculture Production
The birds act as pollinators for various crops like coffee and fruits. So, due to their cross-pollination, the number of yields has increased.
In this way, birds play an important role in boosting agriagriculturalduction.
4.Supporting Fresh Tree and fruit production
Regeneration is an important setup in the production of any field or crop. As the birds are involved in the dispersals of seeds, the new trees and fruit yield has been increased.
4.reducing cost on for chemical fertilizers
As nowadays we are mostly depending upon chemical fertilizers for better production. So due to they are hide mass, they are rates have been increasing day by day. But when birds act as chemical fertilizers, then the financial burden on chemical fertilizers is decreased, and the economy can grow.
5.Eco Tourism
Nowadays, tourism plays a vital role in the economic growth of any country. So, by developing Eco tourism related to birds in the agriculture sector, a lot of revenue can be generated. Economic growth can also be due to Ecotourism.
