Un poco de historia | A little bit of history
King Changó es una Banda de Latin Ska creada en Nueva York por José Andrés Blanco Aybar quien también fue conocido por su nombre artístico "Blanquito Man", de origen venezolano, el cuál nació el 31 de mayo de 1971 en la ciudad de Caracas.
La banda debe su nombre al orishá afrocubano de la Guerra, dueño del trueno y el tambor Changó, rey de la religión Yoruba.
King Changó tiene sus comienzos en el año 1994 con apenas cuatro integrantes. Blanquito Man, emigró desde Venezuela a Nueva York a finales de los años 80, en busca de mejores oportunidades. Fundó La Banda que comenzó a tocar una mezcla de reggae y ska, al poco tiempo se agregaron cuatro músicos más y la banda enriqueció su sonido y su capacidad de experimentación, la variedad cultural de sus nuevos integrantes entre ellos su hermano Luis Eduardo Blanco Aybar, Negrito Man filtró su música y comenzaron a fusionar lo que ya hacían con salsa, merengue, cumbia y sonidos de la música venezolana, como lo son los sonidos del Cuatro Venezolano y los tambores de gaita, esta fusión de sonidos hace que King Changó sea una de las Bandas pioneras en hacer Latín Ska, algunos dicen que ellos son los padres de dicho género musical.
King Changó is a Latin Ska Band created in New York by José Andrés Blanco Aybar who was also known by his >artistic name "Blanquito Man", of Venezuelan origin, who was born on May 31st, 1971 in the city of Caracas.
The band owes its name to the Afro-Cuban orishá of the War, owner of the thunder and the drum Changó, king of the >Yoruba religion.
King Changó started in 1994 with only four members. Blanquito Man, emigrated from Venezuela to New York in the late 80's, in search of better opportunities. He founded La Banda that started playing a mix of reggae and ska, soon after four more musicians were added and the band enriched its sound and its capacity of experimentation, the cultural variety of its new members among them his brother Luis Eduardo Blanco Aybar, Negrito Man filtered his music and started to fuse what they already did with salsa, merengue, cumbia and sounds of Venezuelan music, such as the sounds of the Venezuelan Cuatro and bagpipe drums, this fusion of sounds makes King Changó one of the pioneer bands in making Latin Ska, some say they are the fathers of this musical genre.
