What kind of Crop did you plant?

The kind of Crop I planted is cocoyam👇👇👇.

cocoyam is a root and tuber crop that is cultivated mainly for its corms or their edible roots. Being a tuber and root crops,it supplies a dietary energy of carbohydrates although it may contain some percentage of protein it comes in minute quantity.
it's one of the staple food in Nigeria.
It is the second most widely known food crop after cassava being the first most popular food tuber crops that supply carbohydrates and the way people consume it is high.

How long did it take to mature and what work did you put in

The maturity period of cocoyam depends on the variety planted,as different variety has their maturation time, furthermore, there are perennial crops but sometimes cultivated as annual crops. Moreso,the condition in which cocoyam is grown also determine its maturity. Typically,it take 6-12 months to be ready for harvest while most varieties mature in about 8 months from planting.
A lot of works might have been done before it gets to maturity, which includes;

• Weeding: This is the removal of unwanted plants which might hinders growth and overall yield of crops while also competing with crop for available nutrients in the soil. Proper weeding was carried out to ensure adequate crop growth.

• Fertilization : This is the application of fertilizer to crops to enhance rapid growth. Due to the level of soil pollution most of the soil are deficient in essential nutrient,to improve soil nutrients and crop yield,soil amendment must be done by applying either organic or inorganic fertilizer for maximum production.

• Lastly, proper checking for insect attack, after planting, weeding and fertilization, what I do consistently is to check my farm in case there's any outbreak of disease,pest or insect attack that might cause damage to my crop,so that I can prevent or control them by applying either insecticide, pesticide or rodenticide in case of rodent trying to eat up the tubers.

Why did you consider it best harvest so far?
