Week#6 contest : My garden My crops
It is a good practice ensuring that the spaces we have in our environment no matter how small it is, is put to good use by planting some crops, vegetables or other plants that would be good for human consumption.
In this contest, I present to you a plant that is not popular but contains high nutrients that is really healthy and safe for human consumption. The plant you are seeing me holding, is called Nettle plant. I would like everyone to look for this plant and cultivate it for its healthy health benefits.
Background Of The Nettle Leaf Plant
The nettle leaves other wise called urtica dioca as its botanical name, is herb plant said to have originated from Asia, Africa, and the European continents. Its leaves and stems have stings on them.
During the rainy season it grows rapidly and bear flowers. At a full maturity stage the leaves turns out ash color and the stem gradually dies off.
For several decades ago having been discovered, the nettle leaves is a useful plant that is being used in traditional medications. Science has contributed immensely as to the processing of the leaves into drugs.
The leaves could be bought from the market dry and be cooked to use the water as tea. That is it could be used to prepare the nettle tea for drinking.
Some of the healthy benefits of the plant includes:
Controlling the blood sugar
Treating arthritis
Improves the respiratory system
Treating prostrate challenges
These are just but of the benefits of the plants.
The Pesticides I Use
Macro organisms are the major attackers of the plant. They find the leaves good for their own consumption and so grow on it. To scare the organisms away from the plant, I spray ashes from burnt woods on them. The ashes makes the leaves unhealthy for them to eat by so doing, leave the plant. The ashes doesn't kill them rather, it just scares them away. I use the ashes because using pesticides on the plant could be dangerous to human health. Secondly the ashes would easily be washed away by rains or by washing with the water. Pesticide could be harmful to humans and may easily be washed away.
I do make use of organic fertilizer for plants. I run a small sized poultry farm. Use the feaces of the poultry chicks make the soil fertile for the plants. The feaces is highly rich with the needed nutrients that the soil needs in order for the plants to grow. It really makes them to grow well.
Nettle plants are really good plants to cultivate. It has numerous health benefits that assists in building the body immune system.
You can cultivate it for commercial supplies or for domestic use.
To make a nettle tea, pluck out the leaves dry them. When they are dry, wash it and then put some little water to boil. After heating for 10 to 15 minutes, sieve it and pour into the flask or cup. Allow to cool for some minutes after which you can add milk if you like.
For commercial use, some more efforts has to be put in. This is because this plant and it's healthy benefits has not gone wide. So you need the assistance of doctors, dieticians and marketers to excel.
Finally I invite the following:

We are the hope!
My dear friend we cannot see the full view of your garden is it your garden or something else.
Actually not everyone has come across this plant. The nettle plant is such that grow sparingly unlike other plants. Unless if a farmer has a massive land to cultivate it for commercial purposes, it doesn't need a massive land or space to grow.
The ones you are seeing are the few I grow in a little space I have. So I just grow a little of the plant so I could have some space for others. I grow varieties of plants, crops or vegetables but in small spaces and in small quantities.
Thanks for reading through dear friend.
Thank you very much but it does not fall within the contest criteria.
