Introduction

Steem is a community driven blockchain that gives users the opportunity to earn money from activities such as posting of quality (plagiarism free) contents, commenting and up-voting other people’s posts.
Steemit is the first decentralized app (DApp) that was launched on the steem blockchain 5 years ago (24 March 2016). It is also the first blockchain based social media platform.

In order to make it’s users more familiar with the platform and its functionality, Steemit has provided a compendium of frequently asked questions (FAQs).
FAQ a list of questions and answers relating to a particular subject, website, program, or event which gives people quick guide to understanding a particular subject, website, program, etc.

Steemit FAQ is a document or a list which comprises of frequently questions users ask about Steemit and the corresponding answers to those questions.

Below are overview of some Steemit FAQ

➡️ What can users post to Steemit?

Steemit is an open-source decentralized distributed social media platform which allows people to share contents, feelings, thoughts, experiences, etc.

Anyone can post good, informative, and plagiarism free contents such as texts, photos (of plants, animals, buildings, cars, flowers, human beings, etc.), videos (comedy, drama, TV show, etc.), songs, MIDI tones, jokes, product promotions especially Steemit promo, etc. As long as the content of the post does not violate human rights or Steemit rules and regulations, authors can make their post about anything on the Steemit platform.

What Need to make sure before publish a post?

Authors or bloggers on Steemit platform should consider the following before making their post::

  • Make sure your post is plagiarism free
  • Properly give reference to the source of any material (picture, song, video, infographic, etc.) that is not originally owned or made by you.
  • Make sure there’s no any abuse, hate speech or bigotry, racism in your post.
  • Properly format your post with justified alignment and centred headings.
  • Make you use of correct and proper tags. Only tag people, communities or users that are related to your post.

➡️ Can I earn digital tokens for commenting?

Yes. What you’re doing anytime you comment on people’s posts is part of what is called curation. As a curator of people’s posts, you can earn digital tokens when other curators upvote your comment. The rewards distribution is still the same as in a regular post.

What's your view about commenting and how we can work on it to improve?

Commenting is a good way of maintaining engagement on the Steemit platform. When you give good, educative and impressive comments on people’s posts, they (the authors) tend to reply you and that’s how engagement will continue. Quality comments is very encouraging to bloggers.

But some people don’ know how to give quality comments. Some people will post something like “nice post", “good pictures” “You had a great day”, “Good write up” etc., these kinds of comments are not considered as quality comments and they don’t encourage engagement with the author and other curators.

We call these types of comments as lazy comments because anyone can make them without even reading through the post. The funniest of bad comments is when someone comments “nice food" on a post that was made about “sports". It discourages continuity of engagement or discussion in the comment section of a post.

Example of a quality comment is found in the screenshot below

Honestly apart from the money we are looking for on Steemit platform, blogging here helps you to develop important communication skills.

➡️ Why are people getting vastly different rewards?

There are several factors that determine how people get rewards on Steemit. Below are some of them:

  • Amount of Steem Power (SP): is a measure or rank that shows how much influence a user has on the Steem blockchain. Influence on the Steem blockchain is always proportional to the amount of SP a user holds. Therefore, people with higher SP gets higher curation rewards.

  • Quality of the content: the more qualitative your content is, the more chances of getting higher rewards. Steemcurator01 and 02 always curate Quality contents.

  • Large follower base: people with large follower base tends to get higher rewards because their followers always vote their posts.

  • Time investment: the more you invest your time on Steemit, the more you familiarise yourself with rules the better your blogs will be, and the higher the rewards.

  • Connections: just like in real life, Connections matters a lot on Steemit. If you’re connect to come influence persons on the blockchain, the more likely they will support or upvote your posts.

  • Good Reputation: this cannot be over emphasised. It is believed that people with higher Reputation are judged to be qualitative contents creators, as a consequence, curators normally upvotes the blogs of people with high Reputation.

What users need to set expectations on Steemit?

Expectations abounds everywhere. On Steemit, users can set their expectations on:

  • Achieving a high reputation
  • Achieving a high SP (thousands of Steem Power)
  • Being influential through posting of quality contents
  • Having large follower base

How users can improve earnings?

Users can improve their earnings on Steemit by

  • Posting quality contents
  • Building SP through Power Ups: the higher the SP, the bigger the curation rewards
  • Delegating SP: when users delegates their SP, they’ll get rewards from their delegatee.
  • Steem-promo: @steemcurators01 and 02 and @stephenkendal are all interested in people that promote steem on Steemit and also on other social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

➡️ What is the Curation Reward & In which assets we received the Curation Reward?

Curation on the Steemit blockchain is the act of discovering a content, reading through it, determining its value either good or bad, and upvoting it. Curation happens when you upvote and comment on people’s posts on Steemit. Curation indicates how much you earn from upvoting and commenting on other people’s posts. The real post or the comments under the post can be curated.

The person that upvotes/downvotes or comments on contents is known as curator. Whenever you upvote people’s contents, you earn reward in form of Steem Power (SP). The higher your SP, the bigger the value of your upvote, the bigger curation rewards you get.

Curation rewards is usually 25% of the post value. If you curate a content between 0 – 15 minutes after the post was made, reasonable percentage of the reward goes to the author.

If you curate a post at exactly 15 minutes after it was published, 50% of the reward goes to the author and 50% goes to you.
Any upvote made on a post 30 minutes after it was posted, 100% of the reward goes to the curator.

Curation rewards refers to the rewards earned by curator (s) of contents on Steemit.
Curation rewards is usually in Steem Power (SP) but the case becomes different when someone’s comment (not post) is being curated or upvoted. In such case, the owner of the comment gets curation rewards in Steem Dollars (SBD).

How users can improve and increase earnings from Curation Reward?

  • Users can improve earnings from the curation rewards when they continuously convert their STEEM to Steem Power through a process known as Power Up. The higher your SP, the higher your curation rewards.

  • Another way is by joining curation trails. Curation trails are groups of individuals who come together to merge their SP so that each time they use the collective SP to curate a content , the effect will be bigger than when every individual votes with his SP.

This is a passive way of earning curation rewards on Steemit.

➡️ Plagiarism, Spam, and Abuse, What is considered spam or abuse?

Plagiarism in my understanding is the act of deliberately taking or claiming ownership of words, texts, phrases, quotations, images, songs, patents, video, or any material that is not originally yours.

On Steemit , plagiarism occurs when users use images, texts, infographics, etc., that are not originally their’s without giving proper citations to the copyright owner or the sources of those materials.

Spam is any kind of unwanted, unsolicited offers such as upvotes, STEEM giveaways, resteems. Spamming can also occur whenever a user makes the same comments on multiple posts, when you use unrelated tags to the post, or ask people for money (fiat or crypto).
On steemit, vote buying or selling is also considered as spam e.g. vote bidding services like #tipu.

Abuse occurs whenever you violate human rights, copyright or any rules guiding the affairs on Steemit platform.

➡️ What is Reputation? How do I improve my reputation score?

iMarkup_20210910_143510.jpg

Reputation is the measure of value a user has on the Steemit platform. In other words, it is the measure of how much influence a user has on the Steemit platform. It indicates how many times a particular user received upvotes from other people because the more people upvotes your contents, the higher you Reputation becomes.

People with low Reputation score have little or no influence on your account when they upvotes or downvotes your post. But when an account with high Reputation score (e.g. 75) upvotes your post frequently, your Reputation is more likely to increase rapidly.

How do I improve my reputation score?

iMarkup_20210910_142814.jpg

You can improve your Reputation score by posting quality contents regularly which attracts curators to upvote your posts – this is a major factor in improving your reputation. You can also build your reputation score by socialising (commenting and up-voting other people’s posts) on the Steemit platform.

➡️ What should I do if I discover that someone hacked my account?

Whenever you discover there’s any security breach in your Steemit account, take the following steps:
Step1: get the following details ready/handy

  • Your email address (the one you signed up Steemit account with).
  • Your Steemit username
  • Your master password which you used not later than 30 days prior.

Step2: Visit the Steemit account recovery page 👉 https://steemitwallet.com/recover_account_step_1

iMarkup_20210910_142944.jpg

Step3: input your details and follow the procedure.

iMarkup_20210910_143226.jpg

How does the stolen account recovery process work?

Whenever your account password is changed without your knowing, you can simply use your Steemit recovery account to generate a new password or key to your account.

  • You must undergo this process within 30 days of discovering the password breach and also, you must provide your owner or master password which you used not later than 30 days prior.
  • Without these, your account may remain unrecoverable forever.

What precautions need to avoid account not hacking?

The following precautions must be taken into consideration to ensure your account is safe from hacking.

  • Save your master password somewhere safe (e.g. print it on paper and hide it in a safe place, save it on a hard drive or on a Google Drive).
  • Don’t share your private, owner, public, and master keys with anyone
  • Don’t click on malicious links on the Steemit platform because most hackers use malicious links to deceive their victims.

➡️ Conclusion (What is the Importance Of Steemit FAQ?)

As stated in my Introduction earlier, the Steemit FAQ helps the users of the platform to be familiar with the features, terminologies, terms and conditions of the platform, rules and regulations and lots more about Steemit. It provides answers in advance to questions that users would ask as result, it makes things easier for both the Steemit staff as well as the users.

Imagine if there weren't FAQ section on Steemit, users will be bombarding the Steemit customer care email [email protected] with thousands of emails daily but that hassles has been taken care of by the FAQ section.
