Steemit Engagement Challenge Season8 Week1: What is the value of life?

Many countries around the world have decided to abolish or suspend the death penalty for many reasons, and I support and agree with this, because there was too much risk of innocent people being sentenced to death because of false evidence. Many cases around the world show that innocent people were sentenced to death and then acquitted after many years.
It is also inhuman treatment of another human being, and the execution of the death penalty is wrong from a humanitarian point of view. The execution of a person is often a cruel and barbaric act that does not bring anything good to society, and can even negatively affect the psyche of those executing the sentence and witnesses.
The introduction of the death penalty does not necessarily lead to a reduction in the number of crimes. In fact, many studies indicate that in countries where the death penalty is used, the crime rate is similar or even higher than in countries where the death penalty is not used.
The execution of the death penalty can negatively affect the image of the state and raise doubts about its moral position in the international arena. I believe that the use of the death penalty is incompatible with human rights and can lead to international isolation.

I think abolishing the death penalty was a very good idea, because it was inhumane, ineffective and led to unjust court sentences. In 1944, a 14-year-old boy was the youngest to be sentenced to death in the electric chair for the rape and murder of two girls, and only after 70 years in 2014 he was proved innocent. His case was the inspiration for Stephen King's novel “The Green Mile”.

As for my country, Poland, the death penalty was abolished in 1997, and a provision for its abolition was introduced into the Constitution in 1998. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, the maximum penalty is life imprisonment or 25 years. I was born just after the abolition of the death penalty, so I don't remember the controversial death sentences in my country, nor have I ever heard of them.

I never thought about this. I think you are right. This can easily happen.

What I found interesting is the fact that 25 years is the maximum imprisonment for your country. Does this mean that if someone gets two consecutive life sentences the max will still be 25 years?

Hi friend, .
You have written very well relative to death penalty not in accordance yo human right act and may likely attract international isolation. The one question we will also want to ask is, does the perpetrators of this crime if not apprehended gets the same internation isolation or human right sympathy?

I believe criminality should not be pampered. Life is priceless and no one is permitted to take another man's life. Every act of crime against humanity should be tackled headon with firm punishment.

Why i do not strongly believe in life imprisonment for heinous crimes are simply because, these people may be released in future for political gains. Politically motivated crimes may receive favors from their pay masters when in power and justice aborted.

Thank you for sharing...

Thank you for participating in the dynamics of our community, it is always good to know everyone's opinion according to the legislation of the countries we inhabit.

I did not know that the case of the boy who was wrongly sentenced had served as an inspiration for that film, thanks for sharing this additional information.
