Global Warming

Global warming can be described as a theory or scenario in which general temperature increase around the globe are linked to increased levels of carbon dioxide and other green gas houses in the atmosphere. Over the years their has been an increase in the earth's temperature, this has led to melting ice caps, increase in ocean levels, massive wildfires etc. The climate seems to be changing and this has effects on all life on earth.

Concept of global warming and green house effects

When we hear green house effect, the first thing that comes to mind is an actual green house for plants. We will be using the green house building to explain green house effect and global warming.

A Green house is a glass structure in which plants are grown, every inch of the structure is made of glass. This structure tends to create an artificial environment for plants to grow by careful soil moisture, air quality and heat levels.

The windows of a green house allows sunlight in which warms up the object inside the green house. Heat is then given off by these objects but this heat is not let out by the green house glass. If there is no ventilation the heat remains within the green house and temperature rises.

The earth and it's atmosphere are like a huge green house. The atmosphere is like the glass windows of a green house. Some of the energy absorbed on the eaerf is radiated as long wave infra-red to the atmosphere. Much of this long wave radiation is absorbed by the atmosphere before partial radiation to the Earth because the atmosphere contains water and carbondioxide. This causes the earth to warm up.

The levels of carbon dioxide have increased over the year due to the combustion of Fossil fuel, the rapid diminishing of tropical rain forest also affects plant growth which helps in absorbing carbondioxide. The carbon dioxide that are not yet absolved concentrate on the atmosphere and blocks solar radiation back into space and this causes what we know as 'Green House Effect'.

Types of Green house Gases

i. Sulphur dioxide
ii. Carbon monoxide
iii. Carbon dioxide
iv. Nitrogen Oxides
v. Methane gases
vi. Chlorofluorocarbon

Consequences of Global Warming

i. Change in food production: This depends on the area, in some areas food production will increase why in some areas food production will decrease. It has been projected that their will be a 10 - 70% decline in global yield of food crop.

ii. Reduction in water supply in a areas: Water bodies like leaked, streams and rivers in some areas that have endured steady water supply to some areas could shrink or dry up completely. This could lead to mass migration to areas with enough water.

iii. Expansion of Oceans: Rising sea levels which could flood costal regions, destroy coral reefs, barrier islands would be pushed farther inlands, erosion and fresh water would be contaminated with salt water. This would be bad for fishes and other organisms that live in these water bodies.

iv. Increase in extreme weather: The number of extreme weather would skyrocket, this could be in form of prolonged heat waves, droughts, very heavy rainfall which can cause flooding or landslides. As the top surface of the oceans or seas warms damaging hurricanes and tornadoes will occur frequently and the intensity of it will be very high.

Control of Global Warming

i. There should be reduction on gasoline and emission on each fossit unit burned to reduce the release of carbon dioxide and other materials polluting the air.

ii. The use of coal should be reduced because call emits 60% more carbon dioxide emitted than any other fossil fuel.

iii. Moving over to renewable energy that do not emit carbon dioxide. This means the world must move away from total dependency on fossil fuel.

iv. Trees should be planted, Afforestation should be encouraged, when tree are fell down another should be planted in it place. This is because trees will help slow down carbon dioxide emission.

v. Their should be a global awareness campaign to educate people on harmful effects of global warming.

Conclusion

Global warming is not a fairy tale or conspiracy theory and it is real. The effects of Global Warming can be felt all over the world. Severe drought, heavy rainfall, rising sea levels etc. This also affects us in one way or the other, some people have lost their means of livelood, homes and properties. However their is hope to reverse these effects if we do the right by reducing our carbon print.

Hello @arinzegod12
This you comment on a big problem really, I think that possible changes in favor will come but in a few decades, when green energy will be more trend than it is now.
We can not expect immediate changes because the big producers of pollution are really the great powers, which makes to achieve a radical decrease in the levels of warming is somewhat complicated.
I hope that a change in favor can be achieved quickly, actually, for the good of the planet, but it is not that easy.
Good topic. Thanks for bringing it up for discussion.
