Almost Married

Amanda wept bitterly as she stared at the test result in her hand. She couldn't believe this was happening to her few weeks to her wedding. She couldn't believe that the one thing that brought so much happiness and meaning to her life was finally coming to an end.
If it was up to her, she would damn the result and carry on with the plans but she couldn't live to see her child suffer in the future because of some selfish decisions she made during her youth.
Amanda remembered the look on David's face when the doctor presented the result to them in his office. David had been speechless when she asked him what was wrong. He had silently placed the paper on her laps before slowly walking out of the doctors office.
David had said nothing that day. He had simply dropped Amanda off at her place before driving home. None of them said anything to each other on the phone that night, they both blamed themselves for what was happening. If they had gone for the test earlier, they wouldn't be in this mess.
“How could we not have known this? How could we not have known that our genotype was both AS and that we weren't compatible to be together?” Amanda asked herself repeatedly that night. She was finding it difficult to close her eyes as flashback of the incident at the doctors office came back to her. She wept that night as she thought of the repercussion that single test result could have on her relationship and it didn't take long before she found out.
David had woken her up with his phone call the next morning. He had told his parents about the result and they wanted the wedding called off. Amanda had begged and pleaded with him to find another solution but it seems his mind was made up. He wouldn't be able to live with himself if he brought a child into this world with an SS genotype.
“Let's stop this while we still can” David had said to Amanda before hanging up the phone.
Amanda looked at the test result one last time before tearing it to pieces and then with tears in her eyes, she swore “Never am I making this same mistake again”.
