POETRY: COMPLICATED. DEEP AS THE SEA

Rain coming, coming in from the West,
As so often it does, shy fills with drops
Sucked up from deep Atlantic water,
Evaporated. Lifted. Carried by clouds
Dumped, only to run back to the rivers
To rejoin, once again, the ocean place,
They came from the sun and west wind
Abducted droplets. Spirited them away.
Only for another day, to square the circle.
Bringing them flowing back to the ocean depths.

Perhaps they will have
Travelers’ tales to tell
Of fields and farms of animals,
They passed and saw before
In streams and rivers,
Drains, Culverts and falls
Hitching a ride back to the west,
Following the sinking, setting sun.

Outside my window
I see the Severn river,
A tsunami of shifting tides
Conveyor belt for second hand
Raindrops. Previously. Loved
And once cherished water
Traveling, with droplet takes
To tell, onwards. Carried away
Past flat and steep holme lundy
And far beyond the hands ending.

And on it glides, churned
By swirling currents
To where it all began,
Again sucked from Atlantic waters.
Evaporated. Lifted. Carried by clouds.
Dumped, in never ending, endlessness
Endlessly, ending, never again.

Complicated. Deep as the sea.
