La misión no partió desde GB01, ni siquiera desde el brazo exterior, fue el componente enviado a buscar a la flota de Andrómeda, en el brazo de Norma, el que recibió la orden de enviar exploradores al objeto CG0008-1232, la extraña estrella del anteriormente llamado Cúmulo Globular de Hércules.
Tampoco se trató de una flota de decenas o cientos de naves, sólo cuatro naves de tipo Orión, de las más rápidas y modernas del componente del brazo de Norma, escoltadas por veinte drones inus, recién llegados desde BN34, estación que comandaría las incursiones al cúmulo globular, en la que se empezaban a reunir tropas que eran reubicadas desde varios puntos de la galaxia.
Las naves salieron de impulso a poco más de cinco años luz del objeto CG0008-1232, de inmediato tres centenares de sondas de observación fueron desplegadas, dispersándose en breves impulsos de 100 o 200 kc, mientras sus sensores apuntaban al objeto, y retrasmitían, por enlaces cuánticos, los datos recabados, a las naves exploradoras.
Un centenar de yottabytes de datos eran recolectados cada minuto en las naves exploradoras, que permanecían en el punto de llegada, mientras todo el perímetro era vigilado por los drones inus.
La misión trascurrió sin sobresaltos; después de veinte días de recolectar datos, las sondas fueron recogidas y tanto las naves como los drones regresaron a BN34, donde todo el volumen de datos fue volcado en la red del Parlamento, donde las IA de las academias, se encargarían de procesarla y sintetizar la información sobre el sistema planetario.
Fueron la doctora Jenifer Fukuyama y el doctor Noel Wagner, ambos de la academia de Heracles, los encargados de dar el reporte ante la plenaria del Parlamento; en una sesión, en la que como nunca antes había ocurrido, estuvo presente el alto mando de los componentes militares de Atlas, Apolo, Perséfone, Heracles, GB01 y BN34, simultáneamente, con representantes de varias de las academias más importantes.
―Lo primero que debemos explicar es que, ante todo, consideramos poco probable que los ataques sufridos por nuestras fuerzas provengan de CG0008-1232, el sistema no presenta muestras de tener un planeta actualmente habitado por una civilización avanzada ―dijo Fukuyama, como apertura de la explicación.
―Sin embargo, hemos encontrado varios aspectos interesantes, además de algunas similitudes particulares entre el sistema CG0008-1232 y un sistema ya conocido por todos, que casualmente se encuentra en la ruta de la rotación del cúmulo globular alrededor del núcleo de la galaxia ―dijo Wagner, dando continuidad a las palabras de Fukuyama ―. Se trata del sistema AB394 donde se encuentra el planeta Quimera.
―El planeta Quimera ― intervino el general Oliver Almeida, desde la GB01 ―. El planeta donde la gente se vuelve loca.
―Si general Almeida, aunque no nos gusta definirlo de esa forma ―dijo Fukuyama ―. Al parecer el sistema AB394 y el CG0008-1232, son hermanos. Por favor explíquelo usted doctor Wagner.
―Ambas estrellas y, en consecuencia, sus sistemas planetarios, se originaron en el mismo cúmulo abierto, hace más de diez mil millones de años y CG0008-1232 debió ser arrastrado por el cúmulo globular, en uno de sus tránsitos a través de la galaxia, hace no menos de nueve mil millones de años ―explicó Wagner ―. Las simulaciones mostraron que ambas estrellas formaban un sistema binario, ambas orbitaban un centro de masa común, con afelios que las alejaban mucho a una de la otra.
―Ambas estrellas y sus sistemas planetarios nacieron de la misma nube molecular, por lo que sus componentes primordiales son los mismos y eso no es lo único que tiene en común ―dijo Fukuyama, para luego oprimir un botón en su tabla anotadora, proyectándose una vista aérea de un planeta ―. Estas son vistas del que hemos denominado CG0008-1232c, el segundo de los planetas descubierto en el sistema. Anteriormente creíamos que sólo había dos planetas, pero nuestro nuevo acercamiento, nos ha revelado otros tres, de los que hablaremos luego.
Las imágenes fueron mostrando lo que, a primera vista, parecía ser un planeta deshabitado y estéril, con varios pequeños continentes muy separados unos de otros y un gran océano que cubría la mayor parte de su superficie. Hasta que una de las imágenes hizo una aproximación a la costa de uno de los continentes.
―Eso es lo que parece ―dijo Olaf De Sousa.
―Si senador De Sousa ― dijo Fukuyama, la imagen mostraba cientos de pilares, de apariencia cristalina, ubicados a lo largo de toda la línea costera ―. Es una colonia formada por, al menos seiscientos individuos, de los llamados cristalodermos, los mismos seres que son los únicos habitantes de Quimera y eso no es lo único interesante que hallamos en CG0008-1232.
